Australian Rugby starting to engage in Internet age

Some might remember one of my earlier articles referring to the lack of the ARU’s ability to engage through social media. Though many disagreed, it seems that the ARU, NSWRU, and many others are finally heeding the call.
You might have noticed the further engagement between the Roar and the ARU website.
There’s even further engagement through the fan blog sites such as Green&GoldRugby, and even the NSWRU Twitter person is responding to some questions posed.
This new movement may be a further reaction to the new age of rugby which is approaching, with younger people becoming Wallabies and Quade Cooper spreading the Twitter bug throughout the wallabies squad.
This is giving rugby an engagement with the public that has been lacking in the professional era. And although it is not as good as in person popularity, it is replicating the rugby community before 1995.
Of course, this isn’t to do with the professional level all the time.
But this communication has the ability to give a more personal feel to the public, and the ability to have direct communication, and explanations of the rules.
This new movement can only be good for rugby in its current low. More must always be done, but this may be the start of the new age rugby community.

rugbyfuture,
I totally agree. I think the new ARU website is a great initiative too, with the regular video clips. Then there’s also the myrugbytv channel on youtube. I actually sent feedback to the ARU website congratulating them on this when the website was first improved (and got a reply, who’d have thought!). I agree, using these methods really allows the average person to feel like they know our players, and gives them some person stake in the team’s success. Nice article bro
