Blues selections baffling, once again!

Next! The new batch of NSW players have been lined up, likely to be knocked over, and who knows who’ll be around to pick them up next year. Kade Snowden became what felt like the 457th player to be described as an “Origin type” player. In fact, Bellamy said “he has Origin written all over him”.

Given the permanent nature of tattoos, I feel this is highly risky. But maybe he’s seen Guy Pearce in Memento and doesn’t want to wake up and forget he needs to get to Homebush next Wednesday.

Perhaps it’s that attention to detail which caught the selector’s eye.

God knows.

Some of the choices for game three just make you, as a Blues fan, shake your head.

So Michael Jennings is good enough now, but not for Games 1 and 2? While Jamal Idris has been playing better since Origin 1, but seems to have been shelved.

So what was the point of that?

Michael Gordon? Good luck mate. You have had to have played a lot of pokies for a long time at Panthers to find someone who would have picked Gordon before game One but after two hammerings, you just sense it’s a case of “yeah, why not”.

But why not for Game Two? He has hardly done anything different in the last two weeks. I hope they play the Flash Gordon theme song though like they do at Penrith.

He’ll take care of the goal kicking, but the Blues should probably focus on some tries first.

Greg Bird? Why not. Let’s go down swinging. If anything, the Blues’ search for a penalty on legs in the pack has pretty much just been incarnations of Greg Bird, so now we’ve got the real deal.

He has also been in good touch of late with the Titans, especially if you go by his Fantasy League points.

If this is the end of the road for Bob McCarthy, Geoff Gerard, Laurie Daley and Bob Fulton, should we adopt Fantasy League as the sole selector for next year.

If the program got the nod for this match the starting side for the Blues would be:

Todd Carney, Brett Morris, Michael Jennings, Chris Lawrence, Jarryd Hayne, John Sutton, James Maloney, Glen Stewart, Anthony Laffranchi, Paul Gallen, Luke Bailey, Robbie Farah, Luke Douglas.

Food for thought.

According to Phil Gould, the selectors are waiting to see if Jamie Soward can successfully guide a side through the finals before selecting him.

At least they are getting creative in their excuses. That is certainly not a benchmark that Trent Barrett or Mitchell Pearce have ever been asked to beat.

But as my old Latin teacher used to say “Est Academicus”.
