If the past few years has taught the rugby league community anything, it is that the next generation of administrators are in it for the fans.
Todd Greenberg was still settling into his role at the Bulldogs when Sonny Bill left the club and the game, which has outraged the rugby league public even still to this day. Todd appeared in countless TV interviews, he was always strong and composed in his answering of the tough questions, and stood up for the sanctity of a contract.
The outcome was the best for all parties concerned, but the Bulldogs were the club that came out with a better identity.
The Bulldogs had a horror 2008, finishing with the wooden spoon, so when Todd announced his plans for the Bulldogs to have 10,000 members by 2010, it was seen more as a publicity stunt, and I doubt many took it seriously.
The Bulldogs culture was the worst in the NRL, by far. Their recruitment strategy was to get experience in the likes of Brett Kimmorley, Michael Ennis, Michael Hodgson and Ben Hannant.
Todd expressed that they wanted good footballers, but also good people.
Come round 1 2009, the Bulldogs culture was completely turned around; the family club as they have been known for many years was finally back associated with the club.
Go over to the other side, the Roosters, a club where it takes less money to join is now the club which has taken over the mantel as a club with the worst culture, and off field incidents are as common as Dragons getting a Friday night game.
Steve Noyce was ‘poached’ by the club to help with their off field incidents, but it seems Steve has no authority over the players and they simply don’t fear him. Jake Friend is a perfect example who has been given opportunity after opportunity but again and again finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Michael Searle was the first young administrator who came onto the scene back in 2005 to launch the Gold Coast bid back into the NRL. He’s young and passionate about the game and it’s no surprise he is a key figure behind the Independent Commission push.
Steve Humphries from the Wests Tigers has been giving new ideas on how the game can guarantee more money come the next TV right negotiations. I’ll admit I’m not a fan of all of his ideas, but at least he’s talking it up.
The Central Coast Bears have Greg Florimo as their CEO, who hasn’t let negative talk from the NRL stop him and his team from building a strong club before they are given entry into the NRL.
We have been embarrassed constantly by Geoff Carr over the past few years; the latest talk of banning Folau from Origin is laughable on his part.
He says we shouldn’t give AFL a free kick during Origin, but he is in the papers every day and on the news talking about Folau and AFL, Geoff, stop talking!
That’s why other codes don’t fear us: you and others keep talking about them. How about looking after rugby league throughout NSW as that’s your job.
Colin Love is another who has been ignoring the international game for years – except since 2008, when the Commission talk first started, and now he is said to be in the box seat for the Commissioner role.
Rugby league’s top administration has been abysmal for many years.
The next 10-15 years, the game needs administrators who have the best interests of the code at heart, strong leadership on the tough issues that will confront the game, and be accountable to the shareholders and the most important people of the game – the fans.

Mitch, the administration of rugby league is the biggest ace any of the other codes have up their sleeves.
Love and Carr in particular are a godsend to rugby and AFL, with Gallop not a long way behind. It’s like the AFL having their people running rugby league.

They really need to get rid of those dinosaurs Love and Carr. To use the epithet usually reserved for former Parra chief Denis Fitzgerald, those oxygen thieves need to be shown the door as soon as possible. Unfortunately these boards seem to work more on the Japanese model of business than the Western one (age rather than performance determines seniority).

It looks like the QRL are going to go to court, it seems the only way to get them to allow the independent commission to move forward.
It is a real shame they are putting self interest before the greater good.

John Howard, former Prime Minister, knowleadge of world and known around the world.
Katie Page, wife to Australias most successful Warehouse bussinessman, women in league advocate.
Lauclin Murdock, son of Australias most successful bussinessman, and follows league.
Russell Crowe, owns souths, contacts in American Hollywood set.
Todd Greenberg, brilliant mind, future thinker.
David Middleton, stats-man,
Young media lady off the footy show, for media issues, happy and bright.
John Ribot, apparently has great rugby league admin skills.
These are the Eight for the Independent commission, every rugby league fan will be hanging onto there every word, we will all feel very easy with this mob leading our game. Each brings a different skill, and can lead the game into the future.
On the flipside, i am very depressed, i have to watch foxsports and wait for the afl news which is normally up 1st. Here is my issue, they have nothing to talk about, example, they show players shuffling along in large groups in there shorts, i dont want to see this, and others in tights, mate, give me a break, put some pants on. And the stories normally go along these lines, players injured, players coming back, talking about injured toe’s. Last nite we had a 2 minute interveiw with a player, mind you, about sleeping tablets.
Come on, afl , you have nothing i wish to hear, your blocking news space from other sports, is there not a days of our lives channell for this garbage. I am fedup with this crap, the women in melbourne might love this soapbox garbage, but please, keep this rubbish off our screens.
There coaches leave me dry reaching also, garbage talk, nothing to say, so they resort to fairy stories. Its driving me insane.
We need to make rugby league the number one sport, only so that the rugby league news stories come on first, then i can switch the news off after this.

Oikee – here is what i do when watching Fox sports news. Hit pause whenever an AFL story comes on, go do something, come back & then fast forward till a non-AFL sport news story comes on.

Thanks Mals, never thought about this, problem solved.

why not add the arch villain Brian Waldron to the panel, at least he was VERY aware of the problems, just chose the wrong way to fix them, but with the people who are running RL something had to be done. Pitiful that someone has to break the rules to bring it to the attention of the leaders?? that they have a massive problem.
It’s time for a clean sweep, all NRL directors must go immediately. the commission must be made up from people who love the game but also have business nous. Whatever the outcome David Gallop and co cannot be allowed to negotiate the next TV deal, Channel useless must not be given the rights the operative word being ‘GIVEN’ and News Limited must take a huge backward step.
Mushi said | July 7th 2010 @ 11:44am | Report comment
South’s have already said they will lead the fight against Howard being on the commission due to their labor MP representation. Things like this and the QRL are showing this commission is going to be as independent as Myanmar is democratic.

Good call, Ribot has a dubious rep in league circles.
and Russell Crowe connections to Hollywood?
Im not sure why this is relevant. So does Tom Cruise
Corey said | July 9th 2010 @ 12:48am | Report comment
Russell Crowe can generate money and high profile supporters. A bit like why Aussie kids buy NY hats, you see the singers/rappers wearing them. Lachlan actually invests money into League, he is the no. 1 ticket holder for the Broncos, whilst his wife Sarah is a massive Manly supporter. So they love their league and will want it to prosper. And he has experience, he knows what not to do.

Billo unfortunately I agree with you 100%.
Paul J it is a shame it’s just unbelievable really, how could they possibly to this and actually care for the game. It’s honestly almost enough to make me ashamed to be a Queenslander, now that makes me very very sad. I tried phoning Ross Livermore on ten occasions he was too gutless to even take the call.
Paul J said | July 7th 2010 @ 8:43am | Report comment
Chris
I’m a Queenslander and I couldn’t be more disappointed in the QRL’s selfish attitude. I emailed Ross Livermore asking him to explain why the QRL believe that an NRL commission would starve junior football. I received a prepared statement asking me to look at their message on their website.
This is from the SMH recently:
Mortimer, known as ”Turvey”, a league superstar in the 1970s and ’80s, said he had numerous conversations with powerbrokers about the commission and said there was universal support for the new era and for the November 1 deadline.
”It’s time to be transparent,” he said. ”Any sensible person would see this as time.”
He said that at least 50 well-credentialled candidates had been interviewed for the eight commissioner positions – ”all accomplished people with strong corporate backgrounds. They are exactly the type of people we need to take league forward”.

Inglis, Hayne hmm sticking nose in, in my opinion and btw cant take a joke ay>?
Redb said | July 7th 2010 @ 9:36am | Report comment
Inglis wants to stay in Melbourne – NRL/News Ltd salary cap conflict a joke – not the AFL or Rugbys fault.
Hayne – pure agent/manager speculation at the time..

Essendon wants Inglis..contacting his manager – confirmed by the Dons
Corey said | July 9th 2010 @ 12:41am | Report comment
Hunt wasn’t going to Rugby at first, he was going to stay with the Broncs as Lockyer took a pay cut to keep him (which would have had Hunt’s pay packet at 550-600k/year) and he was being offered the captaincy as soon as Lockyer retired.
Folau says he is going for the challenge, bull crap, if he wants a challenge play 5/8th or Front Row, or try winning every game and the premiership every year. Now theres a challenge. Honestly, would he have gone to AFL if they paid him 500k a year like the Broncos were doing. The truth is, if Folau didn’t lie and said the money was why he was going the NRL would listen to this and do something about it, but they hear is going for the challenge, so they think there is nothing they can do about it.
I honestly don’t mind losing a couple of players here and there to other codes, its good, it shows kids that there will always be room in rep squads and the like. But I do get really ticked off when my club is the constant target, the Broncos. Look at the bloody Panthers, most of the NSW team comes through Western Sydney – look at those clubs.
Inglis will go only for the money, not what I would say is what I would want a player in my team for. We see in the QLD team that passion is what makes a team, not money. But, like I said, I don’t mind I just won’t be watching them, I will watch their first game and that’s it. On to other news, who are the Broncos going to buy with all this money they have left now?!

The bulldog’s problem hasnt been solved by a young administrator and it wont be solved until their fundamental problem, the legacy of the Bullfrog and his family, are removed.Sports Administration is a business and theior is no substitute for experience. Generation alphabet need to earn their stripes. The NRL doesnt have time to wait for them to learn by their mistakers.
