Rogers keeps options open on future

Gold Coast five-eighth Mat Rogers says an announcement about his playing future should be made in the next fortnight, not that he’s concerned about it.

The Titans defeated the Warriors 28-20 at Mt Smart Stadium on Sunday with Rogers scoring two tries in the process to continue the dual international’s recent rich vein of form.

And while there’s plenty of speculation over the 34-year-old’s future, its clearly not something Rogers believes is affecting his on-field fortunes.

“I’ll probably have a coffee with Searley (Titans CEO Michael Searle) tonight and have a chat, I’ll probably have something to say in a couple of weeks,” Rogers told AAP.

“There is no uncertainty for me, because I’m not concerned about it.

“When I’m concerned about it, that’s when I’ll be certain with what I want to do.

“There is uncertainty out there because people don’t know what I’m doing, I’m not even concerned about next year so I feel great.”

Rogers said he had no idea whether he would move to another team, take a pay cut to stay at the Titans, move into coaching, or even return to rugby union with Melbourne’s new Super rugby franchise.

“No I don’t, but I don’t care really,” he said.

Rogers has never won a premiership in his career, but he feels there’s a real chance of achieving that goal this season with the Titans.

“We’ve got as good chance as any,” he said.

“It’s as open as I’ve ever seen it and I think have as much of a chance as the next team.

“A lot comes into it, you’ve got to have a bit of luck, stay injury free and get a bit of the bounce of the ball.

“We’re trying to play the percentages, put all the things in our favour and see what happens.”

Of his own hot streak of form, Rogers says he’s benefitting from playing at full fitness.

“I feel good,” he said. “I feel fit and it’s probably half the battle to get yourself to a point where you’re fit enough.

“I had the two months off after I did the medial ligament and I’m working my way back to match fitness. I feel like I’m match fit now, that I can play a full 80 minutes and not get worried about my fitness, which is handy.

“This is a pretty intense game, so it’s good and I’m feeling confident about where we’re headed.”
