Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler says he and his family are enjoying Perth’s lifestyle but has warned his Glory teammates not to get carried away with their unbeaten start to the A-League season. Perth, equal top with Adelaide after five rounds, face a stern test on Sunday against Gold Coast, who will unveil new signing Bruce Djite.

“It’s always nice to be top of the ladder but it’s miles and miles to go until the end of the season. We are not getting carried away,” Fowler said on Tuesday.

“We know there’s a long way to go. It’s a good start but that’s all it is.”

Fowler’s wife struggled to adjust to life in Townsville last season, but the 35-year-old said his family were happy in Perth.

“(My family have) settled in really well,” he said. “It’s a little bit more relaxed here than back home.

“I love it, it’s a lovely place.

“The people have made me feel welcome so that definitely helps.”

Fowler has scored two goals in his five matches for Perth but is aiming to improve his goal output.

“If I’m being honest I would have liked to have scored more goals,” Fowler said on Tuesday.

“But I’ve done all right.

“I’ve set up goals and scored a few in the past few weeks, so I’m more than happy.

“We’ve shared the goals quite well this year. Branko (Jelic) has scored two, I’ve scored two, Mile (Sterjovski) has scored three.

“It’s not about one person scoring goals, the main thing is the team keeps winning.

“It’s not important for my confidence (to score goals), there’s nothing wrong with my confidence.

“It’s nice scoring goals but I’m a team player. If the team’s winning then I’m happy with that.”

Fowler has played out the full 90 minutes only once this season but the 35-year-old said that was more to do with tactics rather than fitness.

“That’s just a manager’s choice,” Fowler said.

“He wants to bring me off to show up the defence or whatever.”

Fowler missed training on Tuesday but dismissed fears he was carrying an injury.

“Just a little bit of stiffness from the weekend, nothing too serious,” he said.

“Just one or two days off. I’m not as young as I once was.”

Some sections of Perth’s fans have come under scrutiny for including swearwords in several chants this season, but Fowler said he hadn’t heard anything that should be banned.

“When you’re playing on the pitch you’re selective in what you hear. We only hear the good stuff,” he said.

“I think the fans have been fantastic.

“The fans are getting right behind us, the crowds have been fantastic so all the boys are grateful for the support they’re giving us.”
