Tobin and Marston medals - a world first?

Is this a world first? This week it was announced Mark Viduka had won the Alex Tobin medal, awarded by PFA and based on the attributes of Tobin – leadership, achievement, commitment to one’s fellow professionals, and service and dedication to the game.

Doing a bit of research, I saw that the first two winners of this were Johnny Warren and Joe Marston. (Both were conferred posthumously.)

Both these men were giants in the game. This got me thinking, but isn’t there a Joe Marston medal?

A few keystrokes and there it was, it is awarded to the player of the match in the A-league grand final and before that was awarded to the best player in the National Soccer League grand final.

So?

In a bizarre twist Alex Tobin was awarded this in 1991-92 playing for Adelaide City.

Are there other instances in any sport where two players have won each other’s medal?
