Hickey stays true to Waratah winners

NSW coach Chris Hickey has named an unchanged Waratahs team for Saturday night’s Super Rugby clash with traditional rivals Queensland at ANZ Stadium.

Hickey has kept the same starting 15 and bench for the round two match after thrashing the Melbourne Rebels 43-0 at AAMI Park last Friday.

It means Wallabies prop Benn Robinson must again bide his time as a replacement after Sekope Kepu made the most of his opportunity at loose-head.

Blockbusting No.8 Wycliff Palu also remains on the sidelines due to injury, allowing a beefed-up Ben Mowen to continue his good form at the back of the scrum.

“We had a look at the individual performances, the overall team performance and the form of the players … and we found no reason to make any changes,” said Hickey.

“There are still things to work on from the Melbourne game, but everyone who took the field deserves the opportunity to maintain their place in the side.

“We were lucky enough to come through the match largely unscathed so there were no injury issues determining selection, and the players who are currently out aren’t in a position to come back yet so those decisions were a lot easier.”

Waratahs: Kurtley Beale, Lachie Turner, Rob Horne, Tom Carter, Drew Mitchell, Berrick Barnes, Luke Burgess; Ben Mowen, Phil Waugh (captain), Dave Dennis, Kane Douglas, Dean Mumm, Al Baxter, Tatafu Polota-Nau, Sekope Kepu. Reserves: Damien Fitzpatrick Benn Robinson, Sitaleki Timani, Chris Alcock, Brendan McKibbin, Daniel Halangahu, Ryan Cross.
