My Waratahs mea culpa

In the past, my razor sharp knife has been out for Chris Hickey and Phil Waugh. Earlier, I opined that I believed that Hickey and Waugh, when under pressure, would default to playing one dimensional ugly rugby. I was wrong.

Defensively the Waratahs have been sublime. Hats off to John Muggleton, the bellringers delivered across the park on Saturday night stunned everybody, especially the beleaguered Queensland Reds.

The Tahs displayed a level of ferocity in defence that I have not seen in rugby before.

Hats off to Phil Waugh. In the past Waugh has played like a crash-test-dummy, this season he has been an excellent link between the forwards and the backs. His captaincy has been inspirational.

Lastly, hats off to Chris Hickey. The multi-dimensional rugby the Tahs are playing is, in a word, amazing.

The pressure created by the defence, the speed of the ball transfer to the backs, combined with the interplay between all players is just wonderful.

Every player is expressing his talent in a synchronistic way that would make an old Swiss watch maker very proud.

Geez, even Tom Carter has learnt how to pass the ball …
