NRL's kick-blocker crackdown changes the game - but the question is do we want that?
NRL kickers are under more pressure than ever. But what will the knock-on effects of the new crack-down be?
Well it’s another year and looks to be another long one for the Rabbitohs. After another pre-season of hype, last night’s performance suggests the Rabbitohs haven’t developed as a squad since 2010.
Come to think of it, the Rabbitohs haven’t developed as a squad since the mid 90’s.
For all of the positives Russell Crowe seems to have brought to the club, his continued trust in the powers that be to deliver a 21st premiership is harming the club.
Is there another club from any code in the world that has gone four straight years of finals free football without making drastic changes?
Despite the Rabbitohs severe lack of success under the current management, they have continued with the same captain (a weak one at that), the same halves combination, the same football department (who surely must be carrying a losing culture within the place) and the same management making the same wrong decisions.
A quick trip to Redfern Oval during the week to watch them train will confirm the lazy culture that lingers in the place.
I was there last week and the body language from the players and trainers were of a team who were there because they had to be, not to win a premiership.
I also had the honour of watching the Eels train a few weeks ago and the intensity from start to finish was light years from what I saw last week.
Are the Rabbitohs owners not watching what we the fans are wathcing week in week out? Are the owners being hypnotized by the decision makers into thinking everything is ok?
Alas, it seems nothing will change at the Rabbitohs until some tough decisions are made at the top of the tree.
Until then, Rabbitohs supporters can expect more of the same rubbish delivered last night.
The Roosters had the pipe and slippers on at the 60 minute mark and only then did the Rabbitohs make a game of it.
Im just glad the footy’s back!
