This will be the official Roar update thread on the 2011 HSBC IRB Sevens event being held in Adelaide this weekend. I hope you can all contribute and give live scores, updates, and news as best as we can.

Okay, let’s start with the teams and pools:

POOL A
New Zealand (NZL)
Kenya (KEN)
Wales (WAL)
Cook Islands (COK)

This is actually quite a tough pool. Since Kenya and Wales (reigning RWC Sevens champions) have beaten New Zealand before. If New Zealand are not up to the task, I can see the Welsh rolling them over.

Kenya is not doing so well as in recent seasons. Cook Islands are again one of those teams that could upset Wales and Kenya.

But I see New Zealand and Wales progressing.

POOL B
England (ENG)
Argentina (ARG)
Scotland (SCO)
Papua New Guinea (PNG)

England looks like certain qualifiers. I see PNG as a surprise package.

They could be the surprise quarter-finalists. Argentina and Scotland must really really be on their best if they wish to make a impression after failing to reach the Cup quarter-finals last weekend.

My prediction is England and PNG to progress.

POOL C
Fiji (FIJ)
Australia (AUS)
United States (USA)
Tonga (TON)

Fiji was looking fantastic last week until that shock loss to the Kiwis. USA and Tonga will be tough for the other teams, especially Tonga, who have a history of being hard opposition for Fiji.

However, I predict Fiji and Australia to progress. But as for who is first in the Pool, I cannot decide yet.

POOL D
South Africa (RSA)
Samoa (SAM)
France (FRA)
Japan (JPN)

I see an easy qualification for South Africa and Samoa, with South Africa topping the Pool. France and Japan have the tools to defeat RSA and SAM, but they seem to lack the skill-set to use the tools to their advantage.
