Over the past year, Gareth Bale has endeared himself to all football fans over the world for his running ability down the left flank. His performances against Inter Milan will be talking point of this years’ Champions League campaign as he tore Inter apart.

is it time for Tottenham to cash in if the right bid is made?

With Tottenham boasting the arguably fastest pair of wingers in Lennon and Bale, they most definitely must not sell Bale.

These two have produced tremendous performances in both the EPL and the Champions League this season.

It is with this pairing of wingers that Tottenham have seemingly developed a counter attacking mentality this season to best utilise both winger’s natural pace. Harry Redknapp has already said he is trying to build a team around Gareth Bale.

The list of world class players is growing in the past few years, with Modric, Van der Vaart and now Bale. This is accompanied with top class players such as Dawson, Defoe, Lennon, Kranjcar and seemingly Sandro.

Tottenham have formed a good base for their title ambitions and with a very good chairman in Daniel Levy, they are set in the financial department.

Therefore, losing a player Bale will only be a set back in the growth of Tottenham. However, is it time to cash in?

Over the past year and half, he has been turned from a 30 game losing streak to international acclaim. Harry Redknapp has said that a world record bid of 80 million would be needed for him to part with Bale. With the present day transfer temperament, a bid of 80 million is not impossible.

Bale, realistically, is not even worth 30 million, he has not shown the consistent performances to merit his price tag. Since his games against Inter Milan, he has been double marked or triple marked in games and effectively been shut down.

Therefore, if a bid of over 50 million is received, would it be a good decision to sell Bale? He is being found out and is possibly suffering second year blues as he hasnt produced any performances of note this year.

Besides, Bale has already said to Spanish newspaper AS: “if a great opportunity arises, you need to seriously consider it”.

This raises the question of whether or not he is appealing to powerhouses Real Madrid and Barcelona for a bid. While both are unlikely to bid in the near future since they are both well set in their teams, other clubs will most likely inquire as it is believed Manchester United bid 30 million for Bale last summer transfer window.

Furthermore, qualification for the Champions League is unfortunately becoming increasingly unlikely. If Tottenham do fail to qualify for CL again, Bale’s loyalty to the club will be questioned.

Though, if Tottenham are serious in their bid to be title contenders, then players such as Bale and Modric must not be sold regardless for any bid.
