Football media needs to stand up over Musty transfer fiasco
By Midfielder, 23 May 2011 The Crowd is a Roar Guru
The Telegraph ran an article on the weekend concerning Musty Amini, arguing that the Mariners had ruined Amini’s chances of playing for a top club in Europe.
To quote, “Central Coast greed has robbed Mustafa Amini of a dream four-year contract with Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund, says the player’s management amid fears he may never get another opportunity like this.”
Sounds to me like an agent looking after his own pockets. I hope with all my heart that SBS come out guns blazing to support the club on Monday night.
Past history will indicate I am dreaming, however SBS has preached this for years. Its now time to see if they will back a club they don’t like and the A-League in general. I expect Fozzie to get very angry with the agent – or am I dreaming?
Fairfax and Fox need to come out strongly and support the club as well.
Football needs to respond to articles like this in the mainstream press, and we need the support of the local community, rather than having them view us with suspicion.
The argument that the Mariners should accept a $135,000 fee, and should then be thankful its been lifted to $300,000, is beyond a joke.
We shall see next week the true colours of football’s media, especially at SBS. Will they support a club for insisting on getting a reasonable fee, or ignore it and let more damage be done to football in the eyes of the general public?

I am in a conference all day and heaps to catch on tonight … So hopefully football folk can help and comment so it becomes an issue for SBS and others to follow up on.
I need to add here that the Mariners seen pre Hal have developed their centre of excellence an still keep developing it inspire of the financial times …..
From the Mariners forum on the COE development with the club informing the fans and listening to their suggestions… …http://ccyellowarmy.wordpress.com/2011/05/18/supporter-meeting-what-went-down on the night
A brief summary of the night … “”hopefully” work can commence in about 3-4 weeks, stage 1 of the development includes the new training field and the 5 a side pitches plus 2 seven a side fields. The Astro turf fields sound like they are going to be great with great opportunities for people to play on there both socially or in competitions. Stage 1 again “hopefully” will be finished around October. Stage 2 I think is planned for the club revamp and stage 3 the offices etc……..hotel didn’t really get mentioned. Either way hopefully we’re not too far away from something starting, PT seemed very honest and approachable last night, very open to feedback and suggestion”"”
But since pre Hal we decided to build the COE to get the best junior players and accept we are a development league … teach them very well and on sell them…this being how we as a regional centre could compete with capital city teams…
Further it is what the country needs … has it been successfull… well how about this for success …
From the FFA “”"The Central Coast Mariners foursome of Sam Gallagher, Bernie Ibini-Isei, Trent Sainsbury and Mustafa Amini, along with former Mariner Marc Warren, who is these days plying his trade with Sheffield United in England, have today been named in the Qantas Young Socceroos squad for the upcoming European tour”"
Add Matty Ryan who would go but out hurt plus on loan Marc Warren who may return to the club we have 6 of the 23 strong touring party or just over 25% of the team…
That a success now some goose comes along and says be happy with $ 135, 000 ….
Come on SBS and others ..PFA as well….. stand up for what’s right…

There is also the small matter of what value one can put upon the word of the negotiating parties? For instance, did McKinna and Arnold have the authority to agree on a valuation with Farah? If they did, where on earth did Turnbull pluck that $700k + 20% figure from? If they didn’t, why didn’t McKinna and Arnold say so to Farah, instead of letting him go off to the Germans and unintentionally make a d—head out of himself?
Finally, what on earth does the number of 5-a-side pitches and Astroturf have to do with the price of bread, or, in this case, the price of Amini?
How about answering all this before sledging Farah and/or SBS? And what the f… does all this have to do with SBS?
Bloody Alice in Wonderland stuff.

CCM are too greedy end of story. Up on the Gold Coast when a player wants to leave for greener pastures like Smeltz we don’t stand in his way we let him go even when it costs our club money.. I hope SBS crunch CCM for what they are … impostors.

You will not be hearing anything from the fox sports show that is for certain.
Article is a beat up any how, it seems to me if Amini starts every game next season & plays well his value will go up 2 to 3 times anyway.

I agree with you mid. Amini is a good prospect and important tot he club, especially with Perez gone. He will get his chances if he keeps developing. Dortmund played hard ball over Langerak too. HAl clubs need to look after themselves – i dont believe Turnbull or the club wld stand in Amini’s way if they were compensated proportionally to the players potential.
SFC sold Carney for 50K. Was that good for the club? No. Djite, Leckie and ors were sold for decent sums. Why shld CCm be p–sed on for looking after its interests at a time when it, like most HAL clubs, need the money also?
secondly, the COE and representation in the u20s is very impressive.

Amini is worth more to the club, the league and its fans than the offer. It’s also better for Amini to play first team football at this stage.
If we start holding our league in such little regard it will never get anywhere.
Don’t worry about the money(or your manager) at this stage Musty, worry about playing football and improving, you still have a lot to prove at this level.

The headlines and articles written almost feel like they came directly from young Aminis agent with no input from the journalist.
This kid kid while still young is certainly one of the best to come through the A League in six seasons, not just because he can play a bit but more because he looks the real deal as a potential high quality player.
Just why the Mariners should give him away almost for free to the first overseas club that comes knocking is beyond me, especially for the kind of money mentioned. Good on the Mariners for sticking up for the entire league.

On the 442 web site the agent Buddy Farah was quoted as saying “The way the European landscape is, what club would pay any more than $300,000 for an 18-year-old player, especially from Australia?”
Excuse me, looks like he doesn’t have much confidence in players from Australia!! Time to get a new manager Musty.
Quality is quality whether its from Timbuktu, Toowoomba or Trinidad&Tobago!!!

thanks stevo for pointing that out.
looks like another agent thats desperate for a commission. in saying that, amini staying in the HAL for one more year wouldn’t do him any harm. Besides he’s only 18. He hasn’t played a full season of A-League yet!

Midfielder.
I think somebody has tried to take Australian Football for a joke ( rip them off ) $ 135,000 is chicken feed and everybody who knows football knows it is.
The most important thing is does Mustafa get to play football if the deal went through ?.
This is where Foster is on the ball ,just like the Langerack situation.
I think you’ll find S.B.S takes a great interest in what gets said on Football forums such as these, lets see tonight hey.

Agree with your arguments here. Australian clubs do need to take a more aggressive approach at the supply end of the transfer market – as this by definition it will be our business going forward as a league in global terms. It is a legitimate business to be in, so we need to ‘set our stall out’ as clearly as possible without any self-serving cultural cringe from he carpet baggers. Something that has also gone unstated is that at the price Amini was offered does not guarantee his development – only a chance to go to Europe where he may sink or swim. I am not suggesting that he won’t get a great development programme in Europe – but nor am I suggesting that he won’t get a great one at the Mariners.
