UFC 133: Tito back; Rashad to dominate

UFC 133 is on Sunday and it is set to stage a number one contender fight, a battle of top featherweights, and the return of some of the most experienced fighters to grace a cage (not the ‘UFC’ cage).

With all of the injuries, once again we see a totally different card than what was first scheduled.

This seems like an ongoing problem for the UFC and I think it has something to do with the new insurance policy that Dana White signed off earlier in the year.

My own thoughts are that fighters are now less likely to fight through injuries because they can claim insurance if they get injured pre-fight. This is an interesting approach to keep a clean record in the UFC.

Obviously injuries happen regardless, but my point is that it is now much easier to say no than yes.

Is Tito Ortiz back or was he just lucky to catch Ryan Bader with a round one Guillotine submission just over a month ago in the UFC 132?

Whatever happens, Tito has proved to the world that he is not done with and still has the desire to fight big-named opponents in the UFC.

The question now is, if Tito loses, will he be cut?

Dana publicly stated that he was done with if he lost to Bader.

If he wins, can Dana afford to sign Tito up to another three to five-fight deal and give him a clear road to the title? It must be remembered that Tito does command over $200,000 per fight and is part of the old breed.

It is not going to be easy for Tito, as he is up against the unofficial number one contender for the UFC Light Heavyweight title in ‘Sugar’ Rashad Evans.

Let’s take a quick look of what has happened to Rashad over the past two years:

– Suffers his first loss to Lyoto Machida and loses title.

– Comes back and beats Thiago Silva by decision.

– Follows up with another win over Quentin Jackson (wins shot at the title).

– Succumbs to injury and is forced out of the title fight against Shogun (Passes title shot over to training partner Jon Jones).

– Jones wins title and Rashad gets totally boned from his training camp (Greg Jackson’s gym).

– Set to face Jon Jones but Jones pulls out with a hand injury.

– Rashad steps back and is told he has to keep winning these fights and wait for the champion to be ready.

This guy has to be motivated. You cannot go through the above and stay complacent.

Also, Dennis Hallman and Brian Ebersole set their sights on a veteran war.

With over 129 fights in the books between them, this promises to be an epic battle to prove who still has the goods to make it in the UFC Welterweight division.

One thing I am looking forward to in this fight is to see how Brian manscaped his chest. He ran a competition where the winner gets their choice on how his chest hair is groomed for the fight.

Bring it on!
