NSW Waratahs centre Rob Horne has been named on the bench for the Wallabies in Saturday’s Tri-Nations rugby decider against New Zealand in Brisbane.
Horne will wear the No.22 jersey after being rested in the second half of the Australian Barbarians’ 38-14 win over Canada on Friday night.
Horne, who celebrated his 22nd birthday 11 days ago, most recently appeared for Australia against New Zealand at Melbourne during last year’s Tri Nations Series.
Coach Robbie Deans delayed confirming his bench until after the Barbarians game.

Horne would have to be the luckiest player in the 30 (let alone tonight’s 22) – hard to argue for his form (has been injured for most of this year), experience (still only has a few half-seasons under his belt) or prior Wallaby performance (his few Wallaby performances have been decent but not stellar). I suppose he is the lucky beneficiary of AAC’s lacklustre performance

I cant believe it. Ben Tapuai should be there. Now there’s a player with skill and great defense. What’s Rob Horne ever done?

ANOTHER ineffective centre??? You would think AAC and McCabe (at 12) would be enough of a leg up for the All Blacks…
Meanwhile Barnes and Mitchell demand selection in the Wallabies XV (although no probs with giving Mitchell the night off), while guys like Tapuai and Davies showed the Reds playing style is alive and well. By that I mean – centres run hard, straight AND offload in the tackle (take note Brumbies players), while wingers finish with pace. Wouldn’t it be lovely to see that in our test team.

I was at the Baa-Baa’s game and, to be honest, I don’t think he stood out. Tapuai was solid and played a good game. If anything Horne’s defensive display was sound, and the Canadians worked out late in the first half that their best attacking chances were through the inside-mid channel.

Horne missed the tackle that let in the Canadians first try, his oppositie stepped him easily and then burnt him.
Horne showed nothing warranting his selection.
Unlike Mitchell, Barnes, Tapuai and a lesser extent Davies.
We really need another winger on the bench not a centre for the TN’s game. After all a winger was lost and a centre in AAC has moved to the wing.
The main attribute Horne brings is pace which would go well for a winger but Mitchell and Davies would be far better options.
I would of had Mitchell on the bench, if he needs the time off then choose Davies.
Other than Horne the biggest disapointment was Turner he had a very poor game.
If you are chossing a centre for the bench he should of chosen Barnes,

Good point about the need for a spare winger. Here’s hoping that AAC has th e pace and positional play to be able to last the whole game.
