Adelaide United and Gold Coast United will be desperate for the three A-League points when they clash tonight at Hindmarsh Stadium. Join us for live scores and a play-by-play description from 8:00pm AEDT.

Adelaide United have had a far from ideal start to their seventh season in the A-League.

Despite coming into the new year with high expectations after an exciting pre-season the Reds – sitting in ninth position with four points – have failed to light up the competition.

In their three home matches to date Adelaide have beaten Melbourne Victory in their season’s best performance, been defeated by Sydney FC after leading 1-0 and drawn with Melbourne Heart.

The Reds would’ve been disappointed to take a point away from its home clash with bottom-placed Heart last Friday.

What would have been most concerning for the Red Army was the realisation that the equaliser came after the sending-off of Heart defender Simon Colosimo.

Tonight is the perfect opportunity for Adelaide to get its season back on the right track and against a Gold Coast team coming off a gut-wrenching defeat to Sydney FC last weekend (losing 3-2 after being 2-0 up with 30 minutes to play).

It is an opportunity that shouldn’t be wasted by Rini Coolen’s men.

Gold Coast United (seventh position on five points) on the other hand, have performed above expectations so far this season.

Having lost Shane Smeltz and Jason Culina in the off-season, a near-bottom place finish was expected of Miron Bleiberg’s team but in their first five matches this season they have performed admirably.

James Brown has been instrumental so far this campaign, and the arrival of Maceo Ritgers has given Gold Coast’s attack some much-needed oomph.

But perhaps Gold Coast’s biggest attacking weapon comes in the form of Kristian Rees – the tall centre-back has scored two rare goals in the last fortnight and will be lurking ominously at corners for the away team.

Both teams have named relatively strong squads. For Adelaide Milan Susak and Evgeniy Levchenko miss with calf injuries, while Gold Coast will be without Ante Rozic, Josh Brilliante and Joel Porter.

Tonight I’m going to tip a 1-1 draw. Adelaide probably should be beating a side like Gold Coast but it hasn’t yet come together for the Reds, while Gold Coast hasn’t disappointed in any of their five matches.

The draw has been the most-common outcome when these sides have met previously (four out of seven meetings ending tied).

Can the Reds get their season back on track, or will Miron’s men rebound from the last-minute heartbreak against Sydney?
