The Socceroos will look to seal their progression to the next stage of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification when they travel to Thailand this evening. We’ll have comprehensive minute-by-minute coverage of all of the action live from 10.00pm AEDT.

Needing only a point tonight against a relatively weak opponent, the Socceroos should have little to fear coming into tonight’s match, but after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Oman last Friday, they’ll be feeling some pressure.

It was the first real hiccup of Holger Osieck’s impressive reign so far, and more than a few eyebrows have been raised after the Australians meekly surrendered, with some suggesting the Socceroos set out for a draw.

Continually frustrated by a resilient Omani opponent, the Australians began to fall into bad habits and the use of the long ball was an ugly reminder of past Socceroos performances.

And while World Cup Qualifiers centre around results, the expectation is that the football is equally important if the team is to improve in the long term.

Winfried Schafer’s Thailand were expected to be cannon fodder when the two sides met at Suncorp Stadium in September but in reality, the Socceroos were extremely lucky to take the three points.

They trailed 1-0 for the majority of the game and only edged clear with Alex Brosque’s 87th winner to deny the Thais a point they truly deserved.

The match has been transferred from the Thailand team’s usual venue National Stadium to the Supachalasai Stadium due to recent floods that have ravaged Bangkok and the home side will be keen to lift their nation’s spirits with a solid performance here.

For Osieck’s men, another unexpected loss could well and truly ratchet up the pressure on Australia before a final home game against the unpredictable Saudis, and a point here is simply non-negotiable.

Can the Socceroos rebound from last Friday’s hiccup? Or are things about to get a little heated in the Australians’ camp?
