When you’ve come back from two goals down with four minutes to go to win a grand final it gives you a belief that anything is possible. It also helps explain why Brisbane Roar A-League coach Ange Postecoglou thinks his players can win every contest they enter.
Three days after his side’s longest unbeaten streak in Australian sport was halted at 36 games by a committed and supremely disciplined Sydney FC, Postecoglou is warning A-League rivals not to expect his champion team to lose too many more games this season.
He even cheekily suggest his A-League rivals had had their time in the sun this week with the Roar set to reclaim the media spotlight against Melbourne Heart at Suncorp on Friday night.
Asked if he thought rival A-League clubs were glad the streak was over because they could finally get some publicity, Postecoglou said: “they’ve had a week of it (spotlight), that’s enough”.
“I’ll be happy to be back on the front pages this weekend. We’ve enjoyed the limelight and we certainly want more of it.
“I keep saying, if you want to be a big club, you don’t want to be in the shadows of anyone else.
“We had our little blip last week but we’re far from beaten.”
Postecoglou would not entertain the thought of back-to-back losses for his champion team.
“I never go into a game thinking we’re not going to win,” he said.
“The evidence we have in front of us is we’ve lost two games in 42.
“I’d suggest between now and the end of the season we won’t lose too many more than that.”

What else can Ange say?. He is right.Last week could just be a blip on the radar screen what with playing conditions, weather conditions, and some of his players showing signs of induced fatigue (the 2 Olyroos). However it is to be hoped that the lessons to be learned from recent games have not been forgotten and, with the new “international” challenge ahead,an even bigger lesson to be learned.I refer of course to that factor that all managers face,do I accept what I have or do I continue to improve my pool of players?. Ange has proved in the past that this part of his job does not scare him so the next few months are going to be interesting to see how he “tweaks” his system of play, or his playing pool, to achieve continued improvement.jb

I’m hoping Ange hasn’t had time to implement changes and Heart can give Roar a fright tonight. I’ve got my fingers crossed and a coupla coldies in the fridge to cool the nerves!
