The dream run is finally over for man-of-the-moment David Warner after he was clean bowled by India in the first over of his Chairman’s XI’s innings in Canberra.
Warner his two runs off young quick Abhimanyu Mithun before the Indian hopeful for the MCG got one through the in-form left-hander with his fifth ball to leave the Chairman’s XI 1-6 at lunch after just two overs faced.
The 25-year-old Warner, who is captaining the Chairman’s XI in the three-day tour match, was coming off consecutive hundreds, in the second Test against New Zealand in Hobart and the Big Bash League opener against Melbourne Stars.
India were all out for 269 from 80 overs faced in the opening session of day two, with Victorian Jon Holland the star of the show taking 6-70.
Ed Cowan is batting for a possible Test debut at the MCG and is 3 not out at lunch, and has been joined at the crease by incumbent Australian No.3 Usman Khawaja (0 not out).
Battling left-hander Phil Hughes has been demoted to No.4 and is due in next, however his chances of retaining his Test place at the top of the innings appears desolate.
Earlier, youngster Virat Kohli stood tall for India, but they lost their last five wickets for just 62 runs.
Kohli and Rohit Sharma were the not out batsmen after day one, and ironically they’re both competing for the one middle-order spot.
Sharma added just nine runs and was out for 47, but 23-year-old Kohli kicked on from his overnight score of 55 to smash an impressive 132 from 171 balls batting at No.4.
Kohli was outstanding, scoring 18 fours and two sixes, before edging one to the keeper off Holland.
MS Dhoni was another one of Holland’s victims, falling for three, and the Indian skipper might be worried about being a little underdone heading into the Boxing Day Test.
He sat out the first warm-up game and made a cheap exit from Manuka Oval on Tuesday morning when he spooned a simple catch to mid-on.
After clean-bowling Indian great VVS Laxman (15) on Monday, Holland bowled accurately and made the most of some loose hitting from the middle and lower.
South Australian quick Peter George finished with 2-62.

Back to reality for the “Best batsmen in the world”. He scored one century from 4 bats against New Zealand. And had a great night out in the big bash. But lets not forget he is hit and miss. The best batsmen in the world is consistent. Warner is not.

………..but Warner does have that X-Factor about him. The opposition knows that if Warners gets a start, he could take the test match away in a blink of an eye, similar to Sehwag.
