Under-performing Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has been named as a potential signing for the Queens Park Rangers in the English Premier League, according to British media reports.
Cahill, who has two-and-a-half years remaining on his Everton contract, will be the target of a surprise bid by new Rangers manager Mark Hughes before the January 31 transfer window closes, The Times newspaper reported on Friday.
The 32-year-old Socceroo joined Everton in 2004 but has battled repeated leg and ankle complaints over the past 12 month and hasn’t found the net for his club since December 2010.
The transfer may prove a welcome financial move for the Toffees, who sit 11th on the Premier League ladder, while offering a fresh start for Sydney-born Cahill, who will need to prove his value ahead of Australia’s World Cup qualifying campaign for 2014.
Cahill’s former team-mate and now Tottenham midfielder, Steven Pienaar, has also been eyed by Hughes with QPR willing to offer STG3 million ($A4.48 million) for the South African, The Times said.

You wonder if Tim’s career is better served playing in the A-League now. Less games and differant climate here.. I’m sure lots of clubs would like their marquee spot taken by a player like him

I agree pete, it would do any team good to have such a superstar player in the A-League. Especially those who aren’t playing well at the moment…

I agree gentlemen, but given his (usual) importance to Everton, their financial difficulties and David Moye’s preference to keep him it seems a transfer fee would need to be paid (unlike Emerton, Kewell or Vidosic who left their clubs on frees). I can’t see an A-League club doing this, even if some (BNE, NEWC, GCU) could probably afford it.

What confuses me in this is this.
QPR and Everton are both EPL teams, in the same division.
Why is he considered no longer good enough for everton , but good enough for QPR.
If he is not good enough for everton any more then he is not good enough for the EPL to be honest anymore.
I wonder if Tim’s starting spot as a socceroo is in jeopardy too, he is 32 now, and Holger is developing some good attacking midfielders.
2006 feels along time ago now.

Just because a club (QPR) are interested in Cahill, doesnt mean Everton think he is no good and therefore he is no good for the EPL. Its just a bit of media speculation, may or may not be true. Its like saying that the Bulldogs are interested in Billy Slater, therefore Billy Slater is not good enough for the NRL….!!!
