The season is about to get tough for the Melbourne Heart – very tough. Join us at 7pm tonight when the Heart host the Mariners for the first of two testing games in the space of three days that will define the Heart’s season.

After an incredible run of wins, which saw the Heart temporarily take second spot on the table, they have dropped their last two home games, both against middling clubs in Adelaide and Perth.

If that wasn’t bad enough: the Heart host the top team tonight, and the second top team in three days’ time. To make matters worse their last game was only three days ago, i.e. by the time the Heart meet the Roar, the Heart would have played three games in six days.

And if all that wasn’t bad enough for the Red and White: inspirational skipper, Fred, will miss all games.

The good news? The Heart welcomed back some experience into the team in their last game, with Jonaton Germano and Alex Terra coming off the bench in the second half.

The young Heart team need all the experience they can get, with their immaturity being well exploited by Dad’s Army in their last outing.

As for the Heart’s opponents tonight, the Mariners, well, they are sailing smooth waters with nary a cloud in sight.

I can’t remember their last loss. They are six points on top with a game in hand, and they welcome back the robust and competitive duo of Pedj Bojic, Rostyn Griffiths, and just for good measure one of the best full backs in the league, Joshua Rose, has just signed a long term deal.

Little wonder Arnie is walking around these days with a permanent wry smile on his face.

We have to be honest here, the Heart do not have the personnel to withstand the battle-hardened Mariners, who will win this 2-0 in what will seem like a bit of a training run to them.

The Heart’s season has just been hit by stormy waters.
