It will be a matter of time on the fifth day of the Adelaide Test before Australia seal off the 4-0 rout of India. We’ll bring you the live scores and commentary of the action throughout the fifth day of the fourth Test match, with the match starting at 10.30am local on Saturday.
Unless inclement weather intervenes, chances of an early finish on the fifth day are high.
Set a target of 500, India’s innings was the story of the series – they collapsed like they have with nauseating regularity this series.
Virender Sehwag had begun the tour with a half-century in the MCG Test and he ended the Test series with another glorious 62. His dismissal to Nathan Lyon, however, was anything but glorious.
The rest of the side fell away on a reasonably flat track, despite getting starts.
Apart from Gautam Gambhir, everyone else scored between 13 and 35 but none except Sehwag even got to a half-century.
Lyon picked up three wickets in his first real contribution and will have a chance to get a fifer against India on the fifth day. Ryan Harris returned to his best as well, picking two wickets and equally importantly not giving too many away.
With Virat Kohli departing in the penultimate over to a run-out, Wriddhiman Saha remains the only recognised batsman at the crease. His best hope would be to bat for as long as possible and get a not-out to his name.
Given the Indian tail’s ineptitude this series, it will be a surprise if they can hold for too much longer.
We will bring you the coverage throughout whatever remains of the Adelaide Test match and hope to receive your opinions as the action unfolds.

They should drop Haddin.Keepers are primarily in a side for their superior glovework.Everything else is a bonus and we shouldn’t be forever looking for a new A, Gilchrist;he was a freak.Haddin’s glovework isn’t up to scratch, and hasn’t been for some time, not just this series.

Seriously, did India get all of the Australians out in any innings of this series?
The idea of cricket is to get the other side out twice and get more runs than they do. Everybody who has played the game at any level knows that.

That is it from me and all of us at the The Roar for the Border-Gavaskar series, but do not forget that the Big Bash League final will be played today as well – in about eight hours from now.
I will be back with the live coverage of that game – please join me for that game as Perth take on the Sixers at the WACA.
Of course, there are the T20Is and the ODIs still to go…starting February 1.

A word on the coaches as well, Duncan Fletcher would be wondering what he has got himself into. 11 overseas Tests, one win and eight losses is hardly champion stuff! To go with that Ashes 2006-07 whitewash, he has now lost nine in nine in Australia. The board will be looking at a few answers from him as well.
Mickey Arthur seems to have done a good job – Australia executed it well but that stemmed from some excellent preparation. What was massively impressive was that they were going into this series with two big blows – a 46 all out against South Africa and a defeat at the hands of New Zealand for the first time in 26 years at home. Yet, they came back this well and Arthur, along with Justin Langer and Craig McDermott need to be creditted for this turnaround.

Australia had a new pair of openers and while Ed Cowan showed that he could hold his own at the international level, Dave Warner played a career-defining innings at the WACA. It was a century not too many will forget.
Ricky Ponting continued to keep getting his form back, ending in the series with more than 500 runs in the series. Michael Clarke went one better – he scored a triple-century and a double-century and scored 626 runs in the four games, winning the man-of-the-series award in the process.
Michael Hussey made an unbeaten 150 in one innings and 143 in the remaining five innings he got a chance.
It was Shaun Marsh who was stunningly disappointing. Selected in the side on the back of a 99 in the Big Bash League, his feet were all over the place and in the six attempts at the crease, he made only 17. His will be a vulnerable spot when Shane Watson comes back.
Brad Haddin’s wcket-keeping and batting improved at Adelaide but that aside, the selectors will have a decision on their plate – the big question is whether they have a replacement for him. Tim Paine’s injured and the only other viable replacement is Matthew Wade. Wade will be in action in the T20Is against India…
The bowling was excellent, individually and collectively as a unit. In the first couple of games, it was Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus and James Pattinson who did the damage. Pattinson got injured and Ryan Harris fit in seamlessly and made life more miserable for the Indians.
Mitchell Starc had a slow start in the only Test he played but would be happy with his bowling in the second innings at Perth while Nathan Lyon came into his own at Adelaide.
As I earlier said, it was the bowling as a unit that deserved the kudos and the ‘man-of-the-series’ award as well!
The turnaround for the Australian side has been spectacular, only a year ago they were at the receiving end of a 3-1 Ashes defeat at the hands of England. A review and many changes later, they have turned the corner, one would have to say.
An easier tour of West Indies awaits them at the end of the T20Is and ODIs against India and Sri Lanka, and if Shane Watson and Patrick Cummins can get fit, they will further beef up the squad as well.

That is the end of that then. End of a four-match Test series which was expected to be a tad more evenly fought.
MS Dhoni, the Indian captain, had said at the start of the series that this was India’s best chance of winning a series in Australia but he was clearly over-estimating about his wards’ chances.
India have been found wanting at each and every level – batting, bowling, fielding and tactics (whether it is the captaincy issues or ones related to the backroom staff, we do not know)
For India, the openers never got going which exposed Rahul Dravid early. Dravid was in a strange rut, he kept getting bowled and it looked like he had forgotten his runs in England.
Sachin Tendulkar did not get to his 100th international century but more importantly, he allowed Australia to dominate him. VVS Laxman failed consistently and may have played his last game.
Virat Kohli scored an 80 and a century and that should keep him in good stead. Dhoni was decent with the gloves but batting lacked the technique required at this level to succeed.
They bowled decently in passages – Zaheer Khan was head and shoulders above the rest of them.
Ishant Sharma called himself unlucky but it was more a case of being inconsistent, Umesh Yadav would have learnt a lot from his first overseas Test tour while R Ashwin was found wanting in conditions not too helpful for his brand of bowling. Vinay Kumar got one chance and showed why his selection raised eyebrows, both in the squad and in the playing 11 at the WACA.
Lack of partnerships did the Indians in and the batting went from bad to worse – one score of less than 200 in each of the first three Test matches and 201 in the fourth.
They have about eight months before the next Test match and how the board spends that time could well be a key for the Indian cricket. There may not be an Argus-like review but the board clearly has to take decisions in the right direction.

Michael Clarke is the man of the series. Not surprisingly, 600 plus runs with a triple and a double century to go with the captaincy.
I would have probably given it to the bowling unit – or even to a Craig McDermott – but that hasn’t before. Clarke deserves it fully…

The first Test match at the MCG was the closest – India had lost by 122 runs. In the past, India have been slow starters overseas, but this time, they have progressively got worse.
Losses by 122 runs, innings and 68 runs, innings and 37 runs and 298 runs. Boggles the mind.
Australia will be happy to erase their memories of the Hobart Test match against the Kiwis.

Australia have won by a whopping 298 runs in the fourth Test match and taken the series 4-0.
The home team scored 7/604 in their first innings, India replied with 272 and 201. Shocking batting on a good pitch and that’s being quite nice to the Indian team.

It’s taken Australia less than an hour to end the match, outside edge from the number 11 finishes things off.

Zaheer Khan’s gone this time. India is nine down for 193 and we are 45 minutes into the day.
He was doing a good job till that shot, gave himself room and tried to smack it over mid-off as he had done previously. Got it high on the bat and the top-edge was easily caught by Dave Warner.

Regardless of whether he will or won’t be dropped (because we all know he won’t), do you think Haddin should be given the chop? His batting and keeping has been sub-par this summer and the worst part is the sense of arrogance that he undeservedly has. Thank god Zaheer Khan put him in his place because Haddin should really be focusing on his glove work and batting. As I said earlier I think Haddin has a 95% chance of keeping his spot as Australian selectors, for some reason, are reluctant to drop older guys. He will also be saved by a few knocks against some disinterested Indian bowling and easy catches, forgetting all the ducks and embarrassing drop catches.
So the question is should Haddin be dropped for the next test series.
11:47am
CJ said | 11:47am | Report comment
Haddin was, in my opinion, saved by the pedestal on which we placed Tim Paine. He WAS the protege, he WAS Australia’s next keeper. With him there we didn’t look at other options, and Haddin is reaping the rewards on this closemindedness, at least for now.

So who is to blame for this series?
India’s bowling/Australia’s batting? Australia’s innings have been 333, 240, 4-659d, 369, 7-604d, 5-167d, which is usually enough to win matches. Nevermind that those scores are coming with an absolute black hole at three.
India’s battiing/Australia’s bowling? India’s scores are 282, 169, 191, 400, 161, 171, 272; and another score that looks like 220 at most; with exactly one century. Usually those scores do not lead to won Test matches.
I mean, if you take India’s top scores and compare to Australia’s worst scores, India wins by 100 runs, which is not exactly a whitewash. If you take the reverse, Australia’s best two against India’s worst two, Australia wins by about 900 runs.
11:43am
Suneer Chowdhary said | 11:43am | Report comment
On the surface, it has clearly been India’s batting failures caused by some excellent bowling from the Australian pace bowlers.
Scratch the surface a little and the problems are much to do with Indian cricket – their approach to things back home, their selection policies, lack of accountability and the attitude to belittle this format of the game, among some others.

Saha’s gone now and it is an edge through to the wicket-keeper again! This is very simple for Australia…
Saha had been defending well but Siddle was getting it to go away from the batsman. The one earlier had beaten him was a little short but this one, he pitched it up and Saha went for the drive. Edged it to Haddin.

Hello everyone and welcome to the last day of what has been a one-sided Test series. Australia should not take long to wrap this up, they need only four wickets.
India are 334 away from the target and they have 90 overs to get there. Unfortunately with only numbers seven, eight, nine, ten and jack remaining.
