And after that, local boxing starts live on Fox next Friday.
ESPN2 started carrying the Friday Night Fights program live from the United States this year, which is broadcast at 1pm Saturday EST in Australia. With Teddy Atlas calling it, and no cover charge (unlike recent ‘boxing’), this is a winner from Foxtel.
This week’s fights come from Mohegan Sun Casino, Uncasville, Connecticut, in the north-east United States, and features the main event between unbeaten light middleweight Demetrius Andrade (15-0) and Mexican journeyman Angel Hernandez (30-10).
The 185cm southpaw Andrade would look to have the better of Hernadez, however the 36 year old has been in with the likes of Winky Wright for the IBF World Middleweight title (lost on points), Antwun Echols (lost to Mundine on points in 2003), and former WBC and WBA light welter weight champion, Frankie Randall (won on TKO fourth round).
This is a very interesting fight between the 23 year old and the seasoned pro.
The main undercard is between welterweights Raymond Serranno, from the boxing stronghold of Philadelphia, and Rochester southpaw Kenny Abril. The unbeaten Serranno (17-0) should be favoured to account for Abril (11-4-1) although the latter could test him.
Making up the second undercard on the seven fight program are lightweights Emmanual Gonzalez (9-0) and Jesus Bayron (5-3).
Put last Wednesday in the history books sports fans, park up, and watch some real boxing live from the US in between the races from Caulfield, Eagle Farm and Rosehill.
