After two successive losses, Australia will look to get their One Day International tri-series campaign back on track when they take on India at the Gabba in Brisbane – we’ll bring you the live scores and commentary of the action starting at 1.20 pm local time.

Without their regular captain Michael Clarke and with a woefully out-of-form stand-in skipper Ricky Ponting at the helm, Australia went down in a hurry to Sri Lanka. The opponents not only won the game but did it with a bonus point and that makes the competition tighter than one earlier thought.

Australia coach Mickey Arthur has been quick to blame the fatigue but the plain fact is that they are missing a few of their top-flight players and the rest haven’t been up to the scratch.

Ponting has now had four failures to his name this series, Dave Warner hasn’t set the stadiums alight after the Perth Test and Clarke’s absence because of an injury has been telling.

Similarly, Ryan Harris is missing from the line-up, Mitchell Starc’s been a tad up and down while Xavier Doherty has some fitness issues. Mitchell Marsh is already ruled out of the series.

That said, Australia’s recent record in this shorter format of the game is more than decent. They beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh away from home after the World Cup and routed England 6-1 last January at home.

It’s a proud Australian side which would want to defend that statistic and a comeback is imminent.

They may go in with the same 11 if everyone’s fit, although on a seaming track at the Gabba, a swap between Doherty and Ben Hilfenhaus may not be too far away.

India’s performance has improved in the last three games but a lot still depends on Gautam Gambhir at the top and MS Dhoni in the middle. And if the captain is to be believed, Gambhir may be swapped with Virender Sehwag if the latter is fit for this game. Despite the twin-90s from the Gambhir-blade.

Sachin Tendulkar’s form will now be taking worrisome proportions – he has not only not scored runs, but also looked out of sorts in the series. Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma will be the other two in need to justify their position in the side and Manoj Tiwary could well be drafted in place of one of them.

Zaheer Khan had missed the previous game and he may come back if fit, replacing Irfan Pathan or Umesh Yadav. Again, if the pitch demands, the side could toy with the idea of going in with an extra seamer – in which case Zaheer may replace one of the spinners.

Both teams have chinks in their armour and it could well be the team that makes lesser mistakes that comes out trumps. India have, rather surprisingly, out-fielded Australia in the series and that could make a lot of difference once again.

From the perspective of the points table, a win here could take the side to a position of great safety as far as the place in the final is concerned, six to seven points clear of Sri Lanka.
