Peyton Manning has made his shortlist for where he wants to play next season. Denver and Tennessee remain the top two favourites however the San Francisco 49ers have played their hand at the poker table.

San Francisco personnel watched the former Indianapolis Colts captain workout before booking him in with the team’s medical staff for a physical.

If the 49ers get Manning then they will become one of the favourites to win Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, Louisiana on 3 February 2013.

San Francisco finished 13-3 last season after falling short, 20-17, to the eventual champions, the New York Giants of which Peyton’s brother Eli plays for.

The forgotten team out of all this is Arizona. The Cardinals were advised to proceed as if they wouldn’t be acquiring Manning’s signature and they acknowledged that by paying current quarterback Kevin Kolb the hefty roster bonus he was due instead of releasing him.

San Francisco’s decision to make a play for Manning pushed his decision back yet again. The 49ers have a great defense, a solid offensive game and a good coach in Jim Harbaugh. Manning would make them a formidable team, not only in the NFC but the entire league.

I wouldn’t mind watching Manning throw to 49ers tight-end Vernon Davis and out wide, Michael Crabtree.

Peyton’s preference is to stay in the AFC however it would be slipshod not to look into it further. If he does make the move into the rival conference, then he would play against his brother.

Manning is yet to attend San Francisco and the 49ers training facility thus there is much to happen including what will they do with current quarterback Alex Smith if they do sign Manning.
