The Bulls held off a late charge from the Canterbury Crusaders in a breathless finish to record a 32-30 Super Rugby victory on Saturday.

Springboks five-eighth Morne Steyn kicked 22 points and Dean Greyling and Wynand Olivier went over for tries for a 32-16 lead for the Bulls with seven minutes to go at Loftus Versfeld.

But the seven-time champion Crusaders stormed back with converted tries by Zac Guildford and replacement Tom Marshall in the dying minutes and the Bulls had to desperately cling on in the face of a last-gasp attack from the New Zealand visitors.

Steyn kicked eight from 10 shots at goal to eventually outshine opposite number and All Blacks No.10 Daniel Carter, who was shaky with the boot but played key roles in both late tries for the Crusaders.
