Should Gold Coast persist with Guy McKenna?

After watching the Greater Western Sydney versus Gold Coast game on the weekend, one thing stuck out to me. It was the difference a good coach can make, as compared to a lousy one.

There is no doubt Gold Coast have better players than GWS. They have some outstanding talent in their team.

GWS, on the other hand, have got the pickings from a much weaker draft. Yet thanks to the masterful coaching of Kevin Sheedy and Mark Williams the GWS are already showing much more promise than Gold Coast did at the same stage.

After last season and seeing the talent on the Gold Coast roster, many people were expecting to see a fair bit of improvement in them this year.

Right now they look like they will be lucky to win more than two or three games and I believe this falls mainly on the shoulders of the coach, Guy McKenna.

The question is, should the Gold Coast persist with McKenna? He looks well out of his depth at AFL level. Or is this unfair?

Should they go looking for a coach with a proven track record in AFL or even VFL? Gary Ayres springs to mind as just one possible replacement.
