The New Zealand Super Rugby conference leaders the Chiefs play the fourth-placed Bulls this evening at Waikato Stadium, with the match kicking off at 5:35pm (AEST). We’ll have live scores of what shapes to be one of the matches of the season.

The replay of the 2009 final bodes as a big one. In the ’09 final, the Bulls obliterated the Chiefs 61-17 , but it’ll be a lot tighter tonight.

The Bulls are just two points off the lead in the South African conference, and have showed their mettle on this away tour, but have just six days to recover from a physical game against the Highlanders.

Aside from losing Richie Kahui, the Chiefs look in good order, after being brought down to earth by the Reds. They are coming off the bye and will be looking to stretch their lead over the Crusaders in the NZ conference.

Skipper Craig Clarke says the bye came at the right time.

“We needed that after seven games on the trot,” Clarke said.

“We had a lot of rugby and pretty intense rugby at that. It’s good to have the time off and get refreshed mentally and physically.”

Chiefs prop Ben Afeaki will make his comeback against the Bulls after three months out with a broken right arm.

If the Chiefs can adequately cover for the loss of Kahui with replacement Jackson Willison they should win this comfortably. The Bulls looked like a side struggling from a tough road trip last week – this could be the deciding factor as the Chiefs try to run their travel weary legs ragged.

Smart money says Chiefs on this one, but it’ll be keenly fought contest. Leave comments below if you’re watching.
