An impressive knock of 54 from Australian Test star Michael Hussey was not enough to save Chennai from defeat to Brett Lee’s Kolkata Knight Riders in the final of the Indian Premier League on Sunday.

Manvinder Bisla and Jacques Kallis struck half-centuries to help Kolkata to a five-wicket victory over the two-time defending champion Super Kings in a high scoring final.

Opener Bisla plundered 89 off 48 balls with eight fours and five sixes, and South African Kallis hit 69 off 49 balls, as Kolkata scored 5-192 in 19.4 overs at the Chidambaram Stadium in their first appearance in an IPL final.

Manoj Tiwary struck two successive boundaries off West Indian pacer Dwayne Bravo to help the visitors clinch a thrilling final.

Earlier, Suresh Raina (73) and Hussey helped Chennai post a commanding 3-190 after opting to bat first, with Lee proving quite expensive finishing with figures of none for 42 off his four overs.

Fellow Test paceman Ben Hilfenhaus picked up 2-25 for the Super Kings.
