Former Newcastle great Andrew Johns has blasted the Knights after a disappointing loss to the Gold Coast on Saturday that’s kept them on the bottom half of the NRL ladder.

The Knights, who many tipped to be premiership contenders with new coach Wayne Bennett at the helm, have largely disappointed in 2012, winning just four games.

Speaking on Triple M’s `The Rush Hour’ on Monday night, Johns slammed the club he helped take to premiership triumphs in 1997 and 2001.

“They (the crowd) should get their money back,” Johns said of the 24-14 loss.

“It was disgraceful, the game. They lacked enthusiasm, they lacked commitment. They were inept.

“They’ve just got no confidence, and their attack is so boring. Their big name players just aren’t performing. They are going dreadful.

“I’ll say it again – they lacked commitment, they lacked enthusiasm. They were hopeless. Their defence, their speed coming off the line – it just wasn’t there.”

Johns’ comments came after Bennett admitted he was “embarrassed” by his side’s current form.
