The match of the round kicks off from 5:35 AEST between the Crusaders and the Highlanders from Christchurch Stadium. We’ll have live scores for the clash between the South Island combatants.
The fifth-placed Crusaders are coming off a bye and have often struggled getting back into rhythm after a week-off. They did punish the Blues last-start. All Blacks No.8 Kieran Read is back from injury to ensure all their stars are on deck. They need to win to stay in the top 6.
It’s a tough ask for the visiting Highlanders who must win to jump back into the top six. They’re coming off the shorter six-day break as well.
However, they have won their last two against the men from Canterbury. English international James Haskell returns from suspension in one of four changes to the Highlanders forward pack, including fit-again No.8 Nasi Manu.
A torrid battle is ensured, and it’s too important for the Crusaders not to win, and at home in front of a sold-out crowd – including an extra temporary seating bay set up.
The Crusaders should win and consolidate a top six spot with a finals berth looking more assured. Crusaders by five.

Walsh is refereeing the ruck so much better this week, 2 yellow cards absolutely opened this game up. really good display.

Great thing tonight is a lot of the potential All Blacks are playing great games. This is the Southern Trial and we will see the Northern one tomorrow when the Chiefs and Blues square off.

44-13 Crusaders are in blistering form tonight. I think 14 other sides are glad a 4 week break is coming up

The Crusaders just scored from a forward pass and kick to an offside runner. That’s impressive.

Can only play what the ref calls but the offloading and participation of almost all 15 players in it made it great to watch

Then they almost score a breakout try from a knockout.

Penalty after siren. 32-13…..Highlanders come home with the breeze behind them which is a decent breeze. Dont think they can haul it back but they might be able to get within 7

What a joy to see a local derby where teams are running the ball. Makes the Reds v Brumbies game look even worse than it was (which is saying something). Steve Walsh is helping promote rugby this week rather than seemingly intent on destroying it.

Certainly is
As a Chiefs supporter the Saders are beginning to worry me. Dont think we can afford to drop games against Blues, Canes or Highlanders away. Dont want to go into the Chiefs Crusaders game knowing the winner will take the NZ conference.

4 try bonus up. Crusaders running rampant. Crotty under the post 32-13
Had $100 on total tries for game over 4.5 at $1.60 Already nailed that bet
Have $50 on over 49.5 game score so 42 minutes to score 5 more points. Can they do it LOL!

Super game so far. Two yellow cards already, one to each side for breakdown infringements. Point a minute stuff 18-13 Saders at 30 min mark playing with a stiff breeze behind them

Thought Walsh was going for the card a 2nd time with read.
He should have pulled out a yellow early during the reds v brumbies game too to stop the flagrant breakdown disruptions

Excellent point KiwiDave, but back to the game Crusaders will be my pick tonight although I’m also a fan of the Highlanders, not overly confident with my pick, but kind of expect Dan, Richie, Keiran and co. to step it up another level. Pity though that the loser tonight may also forfeit their chance in the finals, have to admit I would have loved to have 3 of our Kiwi teams in the playoffs, if that doesn’t happen I’m banking theitr will be 3 South African teams there……….
Chris as for the Brumbies their should be no way in hell they don’t finish top of the Australian conference, pretty disappointed with last weeks loss to the Reds though………..

I’d like to think so, but the Waratahs in Sydney (no matter how badly they are going and no matter how well the Brumbies are going) is a very hard game for the Brumbies. Brumbies need the 5 tonight to maintain the buffer.
Highlanders v. Crusaders has been a good game of Rugby. Crusaders will probably run away with it in the end, but good to see the Highlanders are here to play!

As a Brumbies fan I am really conflicted about who I should go for in this one.
You can easily mount an argument that the Crusaders winning is best for the Brumbies chances, you can also mount a pretty good argument that the Highlanders winning would be more helpful.

To be honest Chris, the winner of this game will have little relevance to the Brumbies. Your fate is in your own hands. Having a run home against the Rebels less Beale/JOC away, the Western Force away, the Tahs away and the Blues at home if you dont make it from here you have yourself to blame.

If the Crusaders win it makes it marginally harder for the Brumbies to be 2nd highest ranked conference winners (allthough the Chiefs will probably end up topping the NZ conf).
If the Highlanders win then it makes it much harder for the Brumbies to make the finals (if the Reds end up passing them).
In all I’m backing the Highlanders (not that its been much use!).
