Vodafone drops sponsorship of cricket, V8s
Telecommunications company Vodafone Hutchison Australia has stunned Cricket Australia and V8 Supercars, ending its sponsorships in a bid to save tens of millions of dollars.
The company will end its 11 year, $10 million sponsorship of the Australian Cricket Team and the summer Test series in March and will also part ways with V8 Supercar team Triple Eight engineering (TeamVodafone) at the end of the year.
Vodafone also sponsor McLaren-Mercedes in Formula One – and this site has been informed that as McLaren F1 is a global sponsorship, these announcements will not affect that relationship. The repercussions appear to be that Vodafone’s Australian arm is struggling, after network service problems plagued the company through 2011.
