The Tiger Army will be in full voice once again at the MCG this afternoon as Richmond hosts Fremantle. We’ll have live scores and commentary from the game from 1:40pm AEST.

Here are the flavours of the month – watching The Voice, joining Spotify and jumping on the bandwagon for the Tigers. For the record, I’m tucked up the back in seat Z4.

We saw the possibilities during the pre-season, with wins against Geelong in Geelong and Hawthorn. There was a belief the Tigers might be starting to click, while also saying “I bet you they finish ninth again!”

There have been honourable losses throughout the regular season to Collingwood, Geelong, West Coast and Essendon.

But of course, there was no “big scalp” to their wins column.

That was until a fortnight ago with their mauling of Hawthorn, then their gutsy win against St Kilda last week

All of a sudden, everyone wants to be up the front of the supporter’s bus. There are people beating down the door to even drive the thing!

Jack Riewoldt’s firing, the midfield’s humming with Cotchin, Deledio and Tuck in fine form and their defensive line is finding some life since the inclusion of Steven Morris.

Now, I don’t mind this at all. It’s fun to barrack for the perennial underdog.

But let’s take a deep breath… have you done that… and look at the ladder.

Richmond is tenth. 50% win record. There is still a lot of groundwork to be done before you can build up the yellow and black.

But the run home for the Tigers is pretty good.

In a season where 12.5 wins might get you into the top eight, it’s important they win games like today, where their opponent is coming from the other side in the country and struggling to play at their potential.

Over west, it’s been a tough fortnight for the Fremantle Dockers.

New coach Ross Lyon has been panned for his game plan of being too defensive, criticism for throwing Hayden Ballantyne into the midfield and even questions being asked of the captain Matthew Pavlich needing to stand up more.

Well, changes have been made – Jack Anthony is gone, surprisingly give Paul Duffield a spell (he’s not been their worst) and Jonathan Griffin comes in as a direct swap for Zac Clarke.

Are they the right changes? Maybe one of them is right.

But some midfield changes need to be made. When you have one of the most dominant ruckmen in the competition in your side, surely you should be getting more reward for it.

The Dockers haven’t won a clearance count since round five and it probably won’t continue for a while if their current midfield doesn’t pick up the pace. Anthony Morabito and Nick Lower are waiting in the wings and could bolster their lineup in the next couple of weeks.

Freo must arrest their three-game losing streak today, because after their bye next week they’ll have Essendon and Collingwood – there’s every chance that could blow out to six losses in a row and the season could almost be a lost cause.

Tip: I’m expecting Richmond to get caught in Fremantle’s defensive struggle in the first quarter or so, but then break away. The risk for Fremantle is that they get blown away as they’ve given up clumps of goals far too often in the last few weeks. It could get ugly late if they don’t put up a fight at half-back.
