All Blacks phenomenal, says Jake White

World Cup-winning coach Jake White says his early money is on the all-dominating All Blacks for the Rugby Championship title following their ruthless 42-10 thumping of Ireland.
The first weekend of Test rugby delivered few surprises, but White said he was taken aback at the slickness of the All Blacks’ victory, which included a stand-out three-try performance from debutant Julian Savea.
“The All Blacks for me have been just phenomenal,” the Brumbies coach said, having cast his eye over all three Tests.
“People speak about World Cup hangovers, etc, etc, but they were just phenomenal the way they played.
“They never looked like losing that game and to get a guy like Savea in scoring three tries … I was really impressed.
“They’ve made a statement they’re definitely the form team – they’re definitely the No.1 team.”
White, who won the 2007 World Cup with the Springboks, returns somewhat to his international roots from Tuesday, when his Brumbies tackle a second-tier Welsh side at Canberra Stadium.
And after the game, he’ll head straight to Melbourne to join up with the Wallabies camp, where he’ll be assisting coach Robbie Deans.
“It’s not so much for help, but more of just an earpiece and to maybe bounce ideas off him and it’ll be fantastic to see how another international team operates,” White said.
After silencing the critics to lead the Brumbies to the top of the Australian Super Rugby conference this year, White said he was also impressed with how Australia bounced back following an uninspiring performance against Scotland to take points in the first Test with Wales.
“You’ve got to compliment them,” he said.
“They took a lot of criticism when they lost to Scotland and they take a lot of criticism when they don’t play well, but I think everyone was really proud about the way they played.
“It’s a new combination yet they still kept the ball in hand, still asked questions, they scored some great tries and they defended reasonably well for a team that hasn’t played together much.”

Thorn was at the end. He would now decline. New fresh blood in Rettalic makes the AB’s much stronger and he’s a genuine jumper. The All Black game is gettting a lot faster. Kaiono this year was spent. Vito and Thompson are in fantastic form and fresh. With the injection of Smith and Perenara the backline will be electric and if you can keep pace, good luck. SBW’s is better, Savea, Dagg on fire, Cory Jane and Kahui to return with Taylor waiting for a shot. Carter in the best form of his life and Cruden on the bench I do not see Thorn and Kaino leaving being a problem. With the world cup gorilla off their backs, it time to expresss, and they will. Good luck world!!

i disagree dwayne to a point – thorn and kaino still would’ve had the goods to see out this year and probably next but you have to think of their bodies long term. they need to go out to the world and get themselves a nest egg. still playing but making as much money as possible before time catches up with them. this is a kind of off season for them after spending the last 8-10 years playing at test level.

He either didn’t know (which is hard to believe)forgot, or just didn’t believe that the All Blacks are the best EVERY year, they are on a different planet to other rugby teams and have been so for over 100 years. What did he think? That 100 year of test history was a myth and that some how we were going to lose pride in our jersey and heritage over night, that we would not take every single test match seriously and somehow turn in shoddy performances? What a joke!

Justin it is quite obvious that you were trying to have a dig as always
Now lets get the first thing straight, you tried being funny and provocative by infering that the Polynesian influence is quite new, this was and is indeed false we Maori are Polynesian no ifs buts or maybes and we have been around the All Blacks for a very long time oddly enough.
Second thing is I informed you that you should have refered to Pacific Islanders as this would have been a more accurate account of the influence that is relatively new to NZ rugby in the last 20-30 years. I know you are referring to the apartheid era however your account of the situation was false as I said above Maori are Polynesian.
Secondly you always seem to like to get subtle digs in where you can and case in point the Polynesian influence I rebutted this with the recent influence of New Zealanders in the Wallabies. Now that is why I brought them up.

As a non-US, most people are prepared to look at US holding the America’s cup for 140 years as an amazing achievement. ABs have a great history, but one clouded with choking at RWC and playing professionals when it was an amatuer game. Can’t remember one non-NZ citizen echoing Henry’s rant of “best team in history of the World” There’s a reason why.

sandBox – because rugby is played in the world for over 100 years and americas cup wasnt competed by non americans till the 1980′s. which by the way is when the US lost it, ie when other coutries were allowed to compete. and NZ has held the america’s cup despite being a nation of 3 million.
its like u saying that america’s the best at gridiron for the past 100 years or aus is the best at AFL. duh
a winning ratio of 77% over 100+ years of competing is pretty impressive. and considering unlike the america’s cup it still applies to modern day where AB’s are still keeping up that ratio.
every silver lining has a cloud. sure we choked at 20 years worth of WC’s but now that we’ve finally won a 2nd i can honestly that WC’s dont mean sht. all it is the cherry on top. all the games that are played season after season are the cake. currently AB’s have cake and cherry

Jake White got his facts muddled up when he made the comment about a world cup hangover two weeks ago, the world cup hangover has been manifested in just three teams, both Springbok winners and England.
The Wallabies two world cup victories were then backed up by successful seasons in 1992 with a win ratio of 75% and winning the Bledisloe Cup and a 80% success ratio in 2000.
The All Blacks after winning in 1987 were unbeaten in 1988 the only blip being the draw against Australia.

“The day that this team becomes about individuals, is the day this team will plummet.”

And the Pumas !!
In fact, the love and “Mistica” for this jersey runs so deep in Argentina that for most of our history if you did not pay your monthly club fee you could not wear a Puma jersey !!
For example, if a player turned professional he would be banned from wearing our Puma jersey !! That’s “Mistica”, or what you guys call “Mana”.
For decades we survived and scrounged for airline tickets and time to practice together while studying medecine or law or whatever. And yet, generally, we held up well and then some to international competition – amateur players with no annual tournament and about 4 internationals a year !!
And that’s how we learned to play defense, not because we dont have the skills to run with the blessed ovalada, but because there simply was no time for a Puma team to practice together that kind of finesse.
Believe me, the colors of the Pumas are a religious experience in Argentina, too.

Respect “Mana” !!!!
In Argentina we are in awe of it;
Rugby is about a “feeling”, not rational; a sentiment of the heart that players share and honor with one another and with past generations to uphold from one generation to the next, and transfer its spirit to the new generations. We don’t mess with that. It does not belong to anyone player or even team. Pumas underestand this A.B “feeling”.
If you see the game against Australia in the under 21 jwc….see the last try….the grounder that was kicked into the touch zone with an aussie defender just about to put a hand on it with not one puma player in sight of this frame….then out of nowhere Matera emerges….that try sums it all up….that’s all feeling and spirit….a rational player would not have made that mad dash brimming with the spirit of possibility…. because a totally rational player does not have a RELATIONSHIP with his jersey’s colors and history….he could not even imagine that it was possible to get there in the first place….
but when players honor the past generations and invite them into the field of sacred honor…. and play with passion without even caring so much about the outcome of the game….because the results have already been offered to the sky and its not a player’s business to worry about the fruit of victory….our business properly understood is to just give everything and honor the beautiful process of playing the game and being thankful for the opportunity to wear this “spiritual armor”….before we play we always say its a beautiful day to die together….Juro con Gloria Morir !!!
I agree that many athletes dont understand this concept because its a feeling and its a privilige to have been there with one’s fifteen brothers and play with this feeling that not many nations or sports have….only in rugby i have experienced this.
RESPECT from Argentina for AB Mana !!

AB’s have been doing this for 100+ years. AB’s realise this intangible and its worth and instill with every new addition.

There is a couple of occasions where past players actually tear up when speaking about the Mana of the All Black jersey. 20 years on and the pride they felt wearing that jersey still brings out that emotion in the hardened warriors. That’s MANA!!!

“Can’t remember one non-NZ citizen echoing Henry’s rant of “best team in history of the World” There’s a reason why” whats actually funny SandBox is that the AB’s are also the most sucessful team at the world cup. You literally have nothing to fire at us anymore.

Even though I don’t care about the World Cup as I think it is meaningless in terms of being the best rugby team New Zealand are officially the most successful team of all time at World Cups. It always amazes me that humans find it almost necessary to their psyche when confronted by an entity that is perceived to be superior to degrade and belittle their status. Believe me, people will still find a way to denigrate and depreciate the legacy of the All Blacks because most people in this world are, unfortunately, insecure and hold jealousy in their hearts.
