NSW defeat Queensland … in gymnastics

With the state still booming from the State of Origin victory on Wednesday night, New South Wales has accomplished yet another sporting victory.
In this case, the victory comes in the gymnastics world following today’s medal-tally release.
NSW has been announced as the champion state at the 2012 Australian Gymnastics Championships, which ran from 22 May to 2 June at the Sydney Olympic Park Sport Centre.
The event covered five Gymsports for the first time, combining trampoline sports, men’s, women’s, rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics.
NSW was able finish strongly, having trailed Queensland for much of the competition.
They finished with a total of 88 gold to Queensland’s 66.
NSW also topped the total medals count with a combined 240 in total.
The championships included a number of Olympic Games trial events.
The results have seen the like of Joshua Jeffreys and Blake Gaudry announced as Australian Olympians in men’s gymnastics and trampoline sports respectively.
Tomorrow, the twelve remaining in the women’s gymnastics squad will compete in their final trial competition before the final Olympic spots are decided.
