Troubled Beale set for Wallabies recall
Troubled Wallabies star Kurtley Beale is set for some good news with his likely recall to the Test line-up to face Wales in Sydney.
Beale is tipped to go straight back into the starting side at fullback, with Adam Ashley-Cooper moving to the wing to replace Cooper Vuna.
The Melbourne Rebels utility, currently sidelined with a shoulder injury, has been charged with assault following an alleged altercation at a Brisbane hotel last week.
The ARU said Beale was still available for selection with their own disciplinary process on hold until the court matter was resolved.
Wallabies coach Robbie Deans said Beale still had to prove his fitness but his prodigious talent couldn’t be ignored ahead of the Allianz Stadium clash on Saturday afternoon.
“He started some contact work at the end of last week and that will be escalated early this week and if he gets through that graduation, he’ll be good to go,” Deans said on Sunday.
“Kurtley’s a class player so if he’s fit and ready to go, clearly he’ll have a jersey on, we’ll just have to make the decision whether it’s a starting role or off the bench.”
Despite a 25-23 victory over Wales, Deans said the Wallabies needed to improve their skill under the high ball, which Beale offered the side.
Rookie winger Vuna is likely to miss the final Test of the series after he was cited for a dangerous tackle on Welsh fullback Leigh Halfpenny in the second half at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, for which he received a yellow card.
Vuna was suspended for two weeks in April for a tackle while playing for the Melbourne Rebels.
He will appear at a judicial hearing in Sydney on Monday.

Can you journo’s stop describing KB as “troubled”? It’s lame and patronising. He’s a talented, well-mannered, young, indigenous gentleman. He’s got enough to deal with without having flimsy insults attached to his reputation. The latest furore is because he stuck up for a mate in the pub. That would make us all troubled right?

Why mention the fact that he’s indigenous?

I would suggest that having two assault charges laid in a matter of a few years does indicate some level of trouble, yes

Talented , well-mannered, young , indigenous gentlemen do not get charged with assault!!! Try arrogant young brat!! Just like his mates cooper and o’connor!

I think you should leave the slanderous comments about O’connor out.
There is a big difference between Coopers theft, Beales assault charges and O’connor sleeping in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

O’Connor is not a young arrogant brat??? He is actually worse, believing his own brand!
If you have pride in the wallaby jersey, in your country, you do not sleep in! That incident says a lot about the kids arrogance , and it was not a simple case of sleeping in, that is the PR spin.

I think once he stops getting in trouble is probably a good time to stop calling him “troubled”, until then, it fits. He’ll graduate to “former bad boy” (like Paul Gallen) if he can keep his head down and just play good footy for a few years. The media and public forgetful/forgiving, but not that quickly.

I am not sure why he has been cleared to play when if he hadn’t been charged for assault the ARUs investigation would still be ongoing and he wouldn’t be playing.

Absolute disgrace if he allowed to play. Pathetic ARU! Great message to send out to the youth! You can get charged by the police and you still okay to play rugby…. Pathetic pathetic!

Put Morahan in and also Harris. We need to build specialists and unless Beale is going to be our 10 there is no place for him. Harsh. True.

I don’t want Beale or Cooper representing Australia in the near future. I hold the Wallaby jersey higher than that. I would rather lose a game with worthy players than win with a team featuring illdisciplined troubled 20 something’s who have had multiple chances and still prove they don’t give a toss. There are many hard working Super players who have worked hard for Wallaby honours. Especially when the next Wales game is for pride only. A bit ironic that the ARU and Deans would allow Beale to play in a game of pride isn’t it? Distasteful. the drinking session alone when injured should have got them sanctioned. Being formally charged by police should instantly have them going into damage control not lifting the rug a little higher for a few more weeks.

Nah just when you represent your country when you get two violent related charges in many years it’s over. Unless he is going to be our 10 I can’t see how he can be be given any remaining latitude. Too many good players around we are and have already wasted for these CLOWNS

In relation to being charged for legal matter the English are clean. The premiership teams are to smart to let these tools go out by themselves without some supervision.

No those that have already sacrificed talented players before the altar of personality for too long now in Australian Rugby. Take a contemporary example right now, Stirling Mortlock, he would be hard pressed to break through such ridiculous hype and make 13 in today’s wallabies it’s such a farce with the likes of Beale and cooper. We need to move on.

Over dramatise much?? His job is to play rugby, as a wallaby his duty is also to be a role model, right now he has crossed that line. We are not asking him to be Sacked, but to be given the message that he is clear to play ……. What does that say to all the kids out there playing rugby?? As long as your good enough, you are above the law??? Sorry that is BS! Basically he needs a suspension, that will also send a clear message to the other brats in the wallaby squad!

When an older man express a strong urge to punish young, talented men, then it’s time for us to ignore the older bloke, and it’s time for that old bloke to do some soul searching about inner motives.

The ARU have their processes and there is the presumption of innocence. They’ve dealt with this before. If their rules say that when someone is charged with an offence like that then they presume innocence and let the police follow it through, then he plays until otherwise. Just like someone in any other job.
Kurtley got drunk, got a bit boisterous/violent like some people do when drunk, and was involved in a scuffle with a bouncer. The bouncer was sober, so who will have a better story of what happened? Maybe the bouncer was a deliberate tosser to him, but you’ve got to be better than that boys.
He shouldn’t have been out drinking in that state. I can’t believe Cooper wasn’t a better chaperone and didn’t look after him better.
