A-League club Newcastle Jets have signed Swiss defender Dominik Ritter to a one-year contract.
Ritter has previously played for FC Basel and FC Winterthur.
Jets coach Gary van Egmond welcomed Ritter to the club.
“Dominik can play as fullback, which is his preferred position, or a left side stopper,” van Egmond said.
“He has a lot of pace, he will suit our style of play and we will have good competition for spots in the backs.
“He is at a good age to be coming here, he has his best years ahead of him and we look forward to welcoming him to Newcastle and having him at the Jets.”

Don’t know anything about Ritter but the backline looks sorted now.
Expect to hear of signings to fill in the couple of spots left in the front third and recruiting is done.

I’m really looking forward to seeing the new o/s talent on display in 12/13.
HAL clubs have been getting much better at scouting & recruiting the right talent and in this off-season, quite a few HAL clubs have been scouring the o/s markets for hidden gems – technically-gifted players, who are languishing in lower Euro leagues, but want a fresh start & fresh challenge.
In just 7 years, we’ve had some amazing o/s talent, who have reinvigorated their football careers in AUS: Fred, Carlos, Broich, Berisha, Ifill, Flores, Mehmet, van Dijk, Sanchez, Perez, van Den Brink, Adnan, Zwaanswijk, Henrique, Solórzano
That’s around 2 outstanding players discovered each year. It’s probably more than that in recent years & less in earlier years.

Mate, my fingers were crossed that he would end up at the Jets but not to be.
I’m just glad he’s back in Australia. Should be a good addition to Victory for next couple of seasons.
