These are the key moments of State of Origin 2012 Game 3, won by the Queensland Maroons 21 – 20 in a nail-biter at Suncorp Stadium.

First Half

Queensland (QLD) kick-off and Tim Grant takes the ball up for New South Wales and is hammered by the Maroons.

1′ BIFF! Brent Tate takes the ball up and Paul Gallen hits him. There’s some facial work and the replays show some punches – but Gallen throws the first punch and is penalised. The replays also show Brent Tate throwing some cheap shots, nasty.

5′ Brett Morris goes straight through! Flimsy defence from Sam Thaiday, he makes 60m on the burst and beats the fullback Inglis but is finally run down from behind. Queensland are all offside and it’s a PENALTY. NSW have a quick talk about it but the ball goes to Todd Carney to kick for goal.

He kicks it straight and NSW take the early lead! QLD: 0 – NSW: 2. Listen to the penalty and goal here.

12′ TRY NSW! Brett Morris looks to have scored for the Blues! NSW has a repeat set after making some yards up the middle and NSW throw it around. QLD get a touch and it’s six again. 19′ TRY QLD! NSW are penalised and QLD have a set of six on the attack. They hit the line well to get right on the line, Corey Parker takes a hit up and gets an offload, Thurston spreads it wide to Darrius Boyd who has just enough space to get the ball down with Jarryd Hayne defending. No need for the video ref, Boyd scores again at Origin level.

Johnathan Thurston attempts the conversion but he pulls it too far on the left and it misses. QLD 4 – NSW 8. Listen to the try and conversion here.

32′ TRY QLD! Thurston throws a dummy and goes straight through! The NSW defence scrambles but QLD have huge numbers and they’re outnumbered. Finally the ball comes back to Thurston who dives over and it’s a try!

He converts his own try and the Maroons are ahead. QLD 10 – NSW 8. Listen to the try and conversion here.

34′ TRY QLD! NSW kick-off and it goes out on the full! Penalty to QLD who have a set of six on the attack and there are gaps everywhere. Justin Hodges crabs across the field sideways and there’s a hint of a shepherd but he dives over practically untouched! The video ref has a look at any defence interfered with, and it looks like Robbie Farah may have committed to a dummy runner but it’s all clear! Try to QLD!

Thurston converts a simple kick in front and Queensland are ahead! QLD 16 – NSW 8. Listen to the try and conversion here.

40′ Cameron Smith for Queensland tries a field-goal right before the break but it’s way off and that’s half-time.

Thurston was celebrating prematurely but it’s not a try yet. NSW are all over Inglis as he tries to play it quickly but Thurston fumbles a pass and NSW are able to jump on the ball. QLD 18 – NSW 14

62′ PENALTY. Tony Williams leaves his arm dangling out and attempts to take off Cooper Cronk’s head, on the back of two penalties to QLD. It’s an accident as Cronk fell into it but the contact with the head is never allowed. Penalties are 6-3 to the Maroons. Thurston can kick this easily and he does so – the lead goes out to six points. QLD 20 – NSW 14.
