Reds lose Gill, Ioane for Super clash

The Queensland Reds have suffered a double blow ahead of their Super Rugby clash against the Highlanders at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night with key men Digby Ioane and Liam Gill ruled out.
Rising flanker Gill has succumbed to a hamstring injury sustained in the 32-12 win over the Melbourne Rebels while Wallabies winger Ioane will miss his second match in a row due to pneumonia.
Beau Robinson replaces Gill in the Reds back-row while Australian Under-20 three-quarter Chris F’Sautia remains on the wing after overcoming a shoulder injury he copped in his run-on debut against the Rebels.
Queensland, sitting seventh on the table heading into the second-last round, have been bolstered by the return of centre Ben Tapuai from a broken collarbone and the one-Test Wallaby will sit on the bench.
Young back-rower Jarrad Butler is poised to make his Super Rugby debut after also being selected as a reserve.

Big loss. Going to be a cracking match. I’m hoping the Highlanders can roll the Reds for the sake of the NZ sides. If my Chiefs can roll the Crusaders i would almost be cheering for the Hurricanes next week.

The Reds would want to pick up a 4 try BP in this one as I can’t see them staying within 7 of a Highlanders outfit with nothing to lose. The Tahs will account for the Brumbies with ease- probably by 20. This will leave the Reds with a crack at the top of the conference if they can upset the Tahs in the final round and the Brumbies choke under the pressure, which is highly likely. Brumbies and Reds fans should not get their hopes up for the next couple of weeks as they are taking on a near full strength Wallabies oufit, and try as they may the result will be hard to come by.

Reds still favourites, but Im also hoping Highlanders can beat the Reds so it can give the Canes a chance at that last playoff spot. Chiefs are doing damage so far like a big bully by ending the Highlanders season and potentially knocking out the Saders and Canes the next 2 weeks.
I just cant see anyone beating the Chiefs at home.

Good question
Regarding Tahs v Brumbies – I too believe they will beat the Brumbies this week. Not that that is necessarily a good thing.the Brumbies deserve their place in the finals

I am not so sure that the Brumbies deserve a finals spot, look at their record against the teams in the top 8 this year.
Brumbies lost to the Chiefs.
Brumbies didn’t play the Stormers.
Brumbies lost to the Bulls.
Brumbies didn’t play the Crusaders.
Brumbies lost to the Sharks.
Brumbies lost to the Reds (twice).
In fact the only team in finals contention that the Brumbies have beaten is the Hurricanes.

All true but have jagged bonus points in close losses in all of them. Away tonChiefs, Bulls, Reds too.

very unlucky against chiefs, bulls and 2nd game against the reds.
Very stupid losses to sharks and reds 1st game (poor strategy by white leaving hooper on the bench with gill and robinson starting).
Bit unfair to mention that they didnt play the stormers/sader’s considering most aussie supporters have argued till they were blue in the face that the fact the reds didnt play the sharks in 2011 counted for nought.
And yes they beat the canes in wellington after being 10 points down that shows some real spirit. They also beat the highlanders when they were one of the front runners.
