The Sydney Swans will look to maintain their top four status against a born-again Brisbane Lions outfit. We’ll have live scores from 4.40pm AEST.
Behind Collingwood, there are four sides that sit on 40 points, so the Swans cannot afford to be dropping games if they plan on going into September with a double chance.
But Brisbane, who have found form in recent weeks, will certainly be no pushovers.
Sydney last week got a confidence boost in the local derby against the GWS Giants. The final margin was 94 points.
Keiren Jack won the Brett Kirk Medal for best on ground, finishing with 33 disposals and six tackles. Lewis Jetta had three goals, while Adam Goodes showed signs he’s playing himself into form.
The Brisbane Lions hosted Melbourne last week and registered a comfortable 61-point win. It was their second consecutive win, which comes after their upset win over West Coast a month ago.
Irishmen Pearce Hanley continued his impressive transition to Australian football with three goals off half back. The Jonathan Brown of old returned with four goals.
The Lions are now 12th on the ladder with a 6-7 record and suddenly, the top eight is within their sights.
Sydney have made no change, while Brisbane have lost Ash McGrath, Mitch Golby and Jared Polec to injury. Cheynee Stiller, Patrick Karnezis and Jack Crisp are the replacements.

Strong win by the Swans, but did anyone else think there was something not quite right with Jetta tonight? I didn’t see him run once. Injured?

Yes, could be 2005-2006 all over again, the Crows are also lurking in the wings… what odds the Birds will take the top 4 spots? Magpies, Hawks, Eagles, Crows and Swans all flying high at the moment.
Huge win for the Eagles today given they were 35 points down just before half time… reminded me of the Geelong game in 2006 where they were 8 goals behind with 5 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter and they managed to get up and nick it with a great last quarter fightback.
North are a pretty good side and might roll another top 4 side the way they are playing, no one should underestimate them. They seem to have uncovered a few quality big blokes (Goldstein for one is better than I had realized), and the younger Tarrant is providing a nice medium sized forward option for them, think he got 4 today..
As for the Swans and Eagles, well, will be a huge game next week at Pattersons, can hardly wait. Could be one of the games of the year, top spot will probably be up for grabs. Bring it on

Sydney can go top of the ladder if they win today. West Coast barely beat North Melbourne so they should go on top on percentage. Looking forward to next week when the Swans play West Coast. The rivalry finally has some spice yet again with both teams in top form. Got to beat Brisbane first.
