Anthony ‘The Man’ Mundine may be criticised by many boxing fans, but the former world champion’s “big mouth” is making the world take notice.

Mundine made his US debut on Saturday night in Las Vegas, where he stopped Bronco McKart in the seventh round. The boxing identities that were seen and heard ringside were the biggest positives for Mundine, who looks to shake up the 154lb division.

The entourage of Mundine’s dream opponent and the world’s best fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr, were all in attendance, and a brief encounter with rapper 50 Cent allowed Mundine to stake his claim to Floyd’s closest friend.

Mundine told the rapper, “I’ve got mad respect for Floyd, he’s the best, but hopefully I’ll beat some of the fighters and we’ll fight.”

The rapper replied, “Yeah, we’ll talk, we’ll do business.”

Mundine proceeded to call out Mayweather again after stopping McKart, but with Mayweather Jr’s father sitting ringside, he squashed any chance of a fight as he took the microphone in the centre of the ring.

“Mundine’s chances of facing Floyd are slim to none,” said Mayweather. “Floyd’s the man to meet, if you wanna get beat.”

But surely it wasn’t coincidence that the whole Mayweather clan was in attendance with a huge title fight just down the road. So possibly they’re looking at Mundine as a warm-up fight for Floyd when he comes out of lockup?

One thing can be concluded, Mundine’s mouth is making the world take notice.
