Fresh from their first win of the season, the Gold Coast Suns will look to double their win tally against the rival Brisbane Lions. We’ll have live scores from 4.40pm AEST.
It is the fourth ever ‘Q-Clash’, with the current tally having the Suns with one win and the Lions with two.
This time around, the Suns — who are still yet to win a match at Metricon Stadium — will enter with the momentum of last week’s thrilling after-the-siren win against Richmond.
The Lions’ form of late, though, has been pretty decent in its own right, so expectations might need to be tempered amongst the Suns faithful.
After all, the side’s average losing margin after their wins last season was 83 points.
Last week, though, was definitely something to savour for the young side. They got over the line against Richmond thanks to that dramatic goal from NRL convert Karmichael Hunt.
Typically, it was Gary Ablett and Harley Bennell leading the way. Brandon Matera, with two goals and the pass that set up Hunt’s game winner, was also big, as was Trent McKenzie.
The Lions last week put up a good fight against St Kilda but ultimately went down by 13 points.
Simon Black had 31 touches, while Ben Hudson racked up 31 hitouts and 23 disposals. Defensively, Joel Patfull did a superb job on Nick Riewoldt and Matt Maguire had a strong return from injury.
Luke Russell and Tom Lynch will replace Danny Stanley and Aaron Hall for the Suns. Jared Polec and Ryan Lester come in for Daniel Rich and Patrick Karnezis at the Lions.
Stanley and Rich were both suspended.

Having watched the entire game on tv it must be said that the quality on display from both sides was abysmal.

It looked to me as though the Lions thought they could just turn up and win. Any side that does that against the Suns is going to have a fight on their hands. Brisbane were very lucky and they still have problems converting their entries into the forward fifty.
If Jared Brennan isn’t the most disappointing player with such an abundance of talent, I don’t know who is. Missing set shots for goal, giving away 50m penalties, free kicks and generally letting the side down by poor decision making. He will be forever remembered as a player with heaps of potential who showed glimpses but never progressed to the rank of a true champion.

Also, if its any consolation to Suns supporters, the Western Force took a couple years to get their first home win but got there in the end.

Swore like a sailor during the last quarter. Was willing them to kick straight. I think they were just afraid to win. Almost there…

They had the first 9 scoring shots of the last quarter, and kicked one goal eight … what can I say but “more goalkicking practice, lads”.
