Two sides outside the eight but desperate for results meet as the Western Bulldogs host Carlton. We’ll have live scores from 7.40pm AEST.
Although only two ladder positions separate the two sides, the Dogs’ record of 5-10 looks far bleaker than Carlton’s, at 7-8.
But despite the fact their finals chances would appear to be dead, pride is on the line and with some big-name outs for the Blues, an opportunity may be presenting itself.
As for their opponents, they still have a bit of life left in them as far as September is concerned, albeit fading life. Back in 12th spot, games like this are critical for the Blues.
Last week, the Dogs were convincingly beaten by Hawthorn, with the final margin being 72 points.
Bob Murphy was the best for the side, while Matthew Boyd accumulated a game-high 37 touches. Shaun Higgins had three goals, all in the first half.
Carlton didn’t fare much better, as they were overrun by North Melbourne in Friday night football by 53 points.
Chris Judd was their best, with three goals and 36 disposals, but because of that infamous “chicken wing” tackle, he’s now sidelined for a month.
Of the rest, a total of eight players had more than 20 touches, led by Andrew Carrazzo with 29 disposals, six marks and eight tackles.
Both sides have made significant changes. For the Dogs, key ins include Daniel Giansiracusa, Jarrad Grant and Patrick Veszpremi, while Ryan Hargrave and Justin Sherman are among the outs.
For the Blues, Judd’s obviously out, and joining him will be Andrew Walker, Matthew Kreuzer, Lachie Henderson and Kane Lucas.

So at half-time and, to be honest, it seems to be a contest of who can play slightly less badly than the other rather than outplaying each other…

MUCH better work from the Dogs now, go Dahlhaus!
Poor Curnow, though, after the other huge tunnelling hit, he runs full-pelt into someone’s knee….

Ah, Carlton … same as last week, the lack of remaining marking power is cruelling them and meaning that they have enormous trouble finding targets inside 50.

That medic checking out Veszwhatsisname’s leg has an absolutely godly moustache, I am in awe. Haven’t seen its like since the American Civil War…
