That crucial top two spot still hangs in the balance for the Adelaide Crows, so tonight is a must-win game for them as they head north to the Gabba to play the Brisbane Lions. We’ll have live scores from 7.40pm AEST.
This is a bit of a mini-test for the Adelaide Crows tonight. Their recent record against the Brisbane isn’t that flash, losing three of their last four.
But the Adelaide Crows of the last couple of seasons is well and truly gone and are now they’re serious premiership contenders with a list of talent to die for.
This week will be an interesting viewing, mainly just to see how full-forward Kurt Tippett plays in his return to AFL. There’s been plenty discussed about his recent concussion incidents that have now seen him out of the Adelaide line up for about three weeks.
How he returns probably won’t have massive implications on the result. If he plays well, good news. If he doesn’t, there’s every chance we’ll see Taylor Walker continue his good form from the last month.
The midfield is still firing and shows no signs of slowing with Patrick Dangerfield having a stellar game last week (34 possessions and 2 goals). The great thing about their side is when one midfielder is off, other players are able to fill the void.
Brisbane, on the other hand has struggled in the last six weeks. The only win they’ve had is against the Gold Coast and that game was enough to send the best footy fan to sleep.
They’ve had some big shellackings – 47 points at the hands of Sydney, 48 points to Richmond and a monsterous 98 point loss to West Coast in Perth.
Andrew Raines will have his hands full whoever he gets with either Dangerfield or Scott Thompson the likely candidate for his shut down role. It will probably be his toughest assignment of the season.
Knowing they have a decent record against Adelaide at the Gabba is a slight positive, but they’ll need to lift in all areas of the ground if they want to get past a Crows outfit that’s brimming with confidence in the lead up to the finals.
