Hawthorn will look to build on their already impressive percentage as they face the Gold Coast Suns. We’ll have live scores from 4.40pm AEST.
The Hawks have the competition’s best points for and against record, which could come in handy as they push for a spot in the top two and a first week home final.
Going into the round, they were a game behind Sydney, Adelaide and Collingwood in fourth place.
For the Gold Coast Suns, the four points would appear to be out of reach, but they’ll be looking for more positive signs after last week registering their first ever win at Metricon Stadium.
The MCG, the venue for today’s game, remains on the list of stadiums the Suns are yet to win at.
Last week, the Hawks got a big win over another a struggling side in beating Port Adelaide by 72 points.
The standout performers included Paul Puopolo with five goals, Grant Birchall with 32 disposals at 100 per cent efficiency – plus 12 marks – and Sam Mitchell, who had 29 touches.
Gold Coast’s win over GWS was one to remember, with 30 points being the final margin.
Brandon Matera had 22 disposals and two goals, while Danny Stanley (26 touches with 12 marks), David Swallow (24 touches) and Kyal Horsley (23) all had an impact.
Lance Franklin and Jarryd Roughead headline Hawthorn’s inclusions, however Cyril Rioli won’t play.
Piers Flanagan will make his debut for the Suns as Trent McKenzie and David Swallow take the weekend off.

Very interesting … if we take out all GWS and GCS games of the crowd averages, we get a average crowd of over 36,000, which is still very good, in fact the all time record is in the high 36,000′s
Considering quite a few games have been played at small grounds, ( Aurora Stadium, Blundstone Arena, Manuka Oval, Cazalys Stadium, TIO Stadium), the 2 new teams have quite small support bases, both Geelong and Sydney have stadiums under redevelopment, and both WCE and Adelaide both have bigger stadium pending.

Caps off a stellar day of AFL played in front of huge crowds, Viva la expansion.

Ok, we get it, you don’t like the game. You’re welcome to stalk our threads though if you’re life is so meaningless that you have nothing else to do.

AFLHype,
Crowd was 23 000 for Hawthorn vs Gold Coast. Three other codes and cricket would be proud of a crowd that bad.

They would Ian, but the AFL doesn’t compare itself to the other codes for crowds.
23,000 – even for a no-contest game on a dark, dreary Sunday at 4:40pm isn’t great.
Maybe I’m just being picky…

I agree with AR. For a club that has 60,000 members, 23,000 is a poor crowd. I understand that some members would be in Tassie and others might only have a 3 game membership, but you would think that at least 20,000 haven’t turned up for some reason.
