State of Origin: Laurie Daley to coach NSW Blues
Related coverage
Laurie Daley has been appointed Ricky Stuart’s successor as NSW State of Origin coach for the next two years.
Daley got the nod ahead of Brad Fittler, Daniel Anderson and Trent Barrett, who were also interviewed for the role at Rugby League Central in Sydney on Tuesday.
He will take over from Stuart, who quit the role after taking control of Parramatta earlier this month.
Daley has been coach of the NSW Country Origin team for the past two years and has also taken charge of the NRL Indigenous All Stars side.

I tipped Daley as well, they can go back through the posts and i said daley would be a good fit, he was behind Gus once.
At least the blues seem to be on the right page. I really think Daley is a good fit, and a good coach.
Nice work Laurie. Enjoy your beatings.

steve b I think all this proves, and many of us already knew, is that NSWRL have no idea.
A 40% win ratio as Country coach hardly inspires confidence. Nor does his 33% for the Indigenous side.
So in the 8 games he has ever coached he has won 3 times. Oh dear.
Daniel Anderson must have turned them down with a potential eye on the Warriors gig.

Daley has never been an NRL coach. Man…this is scary stuff!
Daley doesnt sound sharp on Foxtel…he doesnt strike me as a strategist nor motivator of men. Youve gotta have at least one of traits to coach.

Queensland would love this. Should have to be a coach before you get a rep coaching job.

So that man that almost single-handedly destroyed the blues by changing the selecting culture gets to coach them and choose the team all by himself? I shudder to think of the fringe-first grade team Daley will come up with.

Just on the basis of his first press conference I am worried. He has already blown smoke up QLD and said we are “moving in the right direction” This absense of meaningful contribution has been a feature of Laurie’s commentary and was the sort of stuff Kearney used constantly at Parra press conferences.
So, OK, he is no strategist/coach. Neither is Mal. But at least Mal is a leader/motivationalist. I just dont see this in Laurie. He is already just following Rickys stuff. The players are on their own. Lets hope we find some halves.

i think the best we can say is that Daley is a bit unknown factor rather than an X factor.
i totally agree with the OP who says that Daley appearances on Fox do not install great confidence in him as an analyst of the game but maybe he is just no a great commentator.
also the OP made a good point in that his role as selector in previous SOO was disappointing to say the least. if i recall he was removed or stood down as a nsw selector for the 2012 series.
i think perhaps nsw is better taking a part time coach like Des Hassler rather than a full timer with no runs on the board.
cannot see this selection as a game changers for nsw.
still good luck to him for accepting what is a poison chalice of nsw coach staring at 8 – 0

Lozza wasn’t my first choice either. But now that he is the coach all of us Blues fans need to get behind him and the rest of the boys. We’ve been eating our own for so long in NSW it’ become the norm’.

Laurie commented before game 3 of this year’s SOO that QLD were not yet “great”
HA!
4 in a row is great…..never been done before…..5 is a dynasty……6 is ridiculous, legendary, immortal…….7 is soul-destroying
8 could be the end of of NSWRL as we know it.
From a NSW standpoint, what’s he ever done? Plus, he’s from the same-old faction. Then agai, who else have they got? Aww man, it’s a mess across the border on so many levels.

I congratulate Laurie Daley in being appointed to NSW State of Origin Coach. He is not my preference and I do have reservations but he has been given the opportunity and he does deserve a chance to show his wares. Already though, I do hold concerns with his statement, in that he will continue to do what Ricky Stuart has done and will include Ricky as much as possible. At the end of the day Ricky Stuart had his opportunity and failed. Laurie needs to recognise that and ensure he does not repeat the same mistakes as Ricky has made!
