The Brisbane Broncos can secure a finals birth with a win tonight but face a dangerous Penrith Panthers side eager to strike a cruel blow in their last match of the season. Join us for NRL live scores and blog from 7:30pm AEST.

Despite losing their past six matches, Brisbane still find themselves inside the top eight, thanks largely to the Tigers disastrous performance against the Roosters last week.

Had the Tigers beaten the Roosters, Brisbane would currently be sitting outside the top eight, two points behind Tim Sheens’ men.

Instead, the rugby league gods have smiled and the six time premiership winners have their destiny in their own hands when they clash against Penrith.

Although they will start favourites at home, Brisbane are by no means any sort of sure bet of defeating Penrith tonight.

The Panthers are finishing the season with a wet sail as evidenced by their strong win against a Titans outfit that was still in the running for a top eight birth.

Prediction

The Panthers have nothing to lose and will throw caution to the wind tonight in a bid to break Brisbane hearts.

The Broncos really must keep their defence focused on Penrith stars Lachlan Coote, Luke Walsh, Brad Tighe and Michael Jennings.

The preceding quartet of players are Penrith’s most dangerous attacking weapons and will hurt Brisbane if given the space to cause havoc.

Despite their bad losing run, the Broncos have shown signs of improving and should win tonight if they play at a high level.

In their recent losses to Melbourne and Canterbury in particular, Brisbane started their matches very well and played with the sort of intensity that had them earmarked as premiership contenders two months ago.

On paper, they certainly possess the power and skill in the forwards and backline respectively to make short work of the Panthers tonight.

With a finals spot on the line, expect the Broncos to finally break through for a win on the back of strong performances from under fire stars Josh Hoffman and Peter Wallace.
