All Blacks remain unbeaten after 21-5 win over Argentina

The All Blacks overcame a committed Argentina and a power outage to beat Argentina 21-5 in their Rugby Championship Test on Saturday night played in horrendous Wellington weather.
Another New Zealand performance plagued by handling errors came to life in the closing stages as they crossed through wingers Julian Savea and Cory Jane to maintain their perfect start to the four-nation tournament.
Argentina, who drew 16-16 with South Africa two weeks ago, defended resolutely through the first three-quarters of the match but lost their way when flanker Julio Farias Cabellos was sinbinned in the 59th minute.
A patchy spectacle will be remembered most for a halftime break which lasted nearly half an hour due to a power outage which plunged Westpac Stadium into darkness.
Winds peaked at 160km/hr in Wellington which tore roofs off houses and uprooted trees and caused the power cut which plunged the stadium into darkness.
Both teams returned to their changing sheds as the floodlights took about 15 minutes to warm up following a loss of power in the port area of the city.
At that stage the hosts led just 6-5 following a first half played in strong wind and rain.
Conditions were better in the second spell but a granite-tough Pumas pack proved hard to break down although discipline often proved their undoing.
Aaron Cruden, a late replacement for Dan Carter at five-eighth, landed penalties in the ninth and 24th minutes, either side of a try to veteran Pumas prop Rodrigo Roncero.
He burrowed over after the All Blacks had recklessly tried to attack from near their own goal line.
Cruden put his side 9-5 up in the 51st minute and Argentina’s hopes were dented eight minutes later when Cabello was shown a yellow card for a professional foul.
He made a tackle on Jane who had tried to pass to unmarked All Blacks outside him but French referee Romain Poite ruled the Puma had deliberately knocked the ball down.
The All Blacks exploited their advantage when centre Conrad Smith drew two defenders before offloading to Ma’a Nonu who put Savea over.
Victory was sealed with nine minutes to play when Jane was the recipient of a neat long pass by Cruden, who landed the sideline conversion to complete an 11-point haul.
It was a 13th straight Test win for the All Blacks, who remain unbeaten in 15 Tests against Argentina.
Following twin defeats of Australia last month, the world champion All Blacks now prepare for a Test against the Springboks in Dunedin next week.

Ab’s too goos. The Argies at least had some idea what they were doing but they would of been blown of the park if the weather was dry. In the 2nd half anyway. AB’s are in there own world right now. See how the wallabies go tonight to justify where Deans is at. But Bith deans and the books coach are under pressure both getting bagged big time so both desperate to win and keep there jobs, going to be very personal then both coaches will be motivated.

“they would have been blown out the park if it was dry” – mate they both played in the same conditions, fair game no if’s and but’s necessary. Los Pumas played well and must not be underestimated.

Yep but 15 unanswered points once it stopped raining. Not much doubt they would’ve been thumped had it been dry.
Still, a great addition to the tournament! They’ll roll all three other sides pretty soon

Best wishes to the Wallabies against the Boks tonight.
The Pumas played with a lot of enthusiasm and commitment for 60% of the first half, but they never looked like creating any scoring opportunities. They seemed content to minimise a scoreboard blowout by any means.

Maybe they should have left the lights on….. All Blacks must have been worried at half time so they asked for the lights to stay off to get there breath back… well maybe not…. pity about the sin binning too as it made the game open up…. Maybe Pumas will knock over the Wallabies now….

I was at the game – goddamn cold and windy.
Boring game in first half. Pumas defended very well but did not threaten much.
All blacks crap handling agin, not a good gme for them.
Lots of bs puma players going down injured, quite a negative style but gave us a good work out

Hmmmmmmmm!
Substandard effort from the AB’s. “In their own world indeed,”!

Substandard game from them but they won by 16 points? Seeing as there’s not another side in the world that would’ve win by 16 playing poorly for 60 odd minutes I’d say, by definition, they are in their own world.

Boks beat them by 21 and played terrible for at least 60 mins in the first game.

I meant that they played terribly overall regardless if they scored their points in the first or last 60mins or whenever. They played terribly and still won by 21. Just making a point that what was said above isn’t exactly true.

Some loud-mouthed irrelevant sports jock called Mark Watson on Radiosport is already waffling on about that.

No doubt Pumas forwards pack is a handful to any other pack! They are great at the ruck, good at set pieces etc (thanks Top 14, Aviva, HC etc).

Can’t believe the AB’s would cut the power to unsettle the away team at half time, jeez those kiwis will do anything to win. LOL
