Finals footy for 2012 is here and after the Bulldogs’ win last night at ANZ Stadium the Melbourne Storm battle the South Sydney Rabbitohs at AAMI Park. We’ll have live scores from 5.45pm AEST.

There is plenty on the line here in Melbourne tonight, with the winners receiving a weekend off and the losers forced to play sudden-death next week.

Billy Slater vs Greg Inglis is a main event in itself. But for the first time in forever, there is plenty of pressure on Slater. The greatest fullback rugby league has ever seen needs a big game, and it might just come at the expense of the Rabbitohs.

Inglis’ combination with John Sutton has finally given Sutton and Souths something to smile about. There has been a lot of talk about Sutton and his position in the side over the past few years, but the big five-eight has certainly performed in 2012 and could be the difference against Melbourne.

The return of a host of former Storm players in Inglis, Michael Crocker, Matt King and coach Michael Maguire could prove lethal for the home side as these men hold no fear of their past employers.

Maguire has instilled a Craig Bellamy-esque steel about his new team and they truly believe they are one of the heavyweights of the National Rugby League.

Slater and Inglis might be getting all the headlines leading into this one, but there is one heavyweight ready to put his rather large stamp on this one.

This sort of game and hype suits Sam Burgess to a tee. The big Englishman has been starved of finals footy since joining the Rabbitohs and is desperate to be on the big stage.

Melbourne’s forward pack struggled in the 2011 finals and were bundled out in week three against New Zealand. Burgess is eyeing the Storm’s big boys and would be pumped for a big performance.

The real test for a young halfback though is a tight match in Melbourne up against Cooper Cronk and the Storm, and Adam Reynolds will be tested physically and mentally by the contest. If he comes through the other side though, Souths might be on their way to week three of the NRL finals.

Will the Rabbitohs’ dream season continue or will the Storm’s class rise to the top?
