The AFL’s worst-kept secret is set to be finally revealed on Tuesday morning when the Carlton Football Club announce Mick Malthouse as their coach for the next three seasons. Join us as we live blog the announcement from 10.00am AEST.

Speculation had been rife that Malthouse would be at the Blues in 2013, following Brett Ratten’s departure from Princes Park a fortnight ago, despite Malthouse’s half-committed denials.

He’ll arrive at the Blues as one of the most decorated coaches in the AFL, following two premierships at the West Coast Eagles in the mid-90s, and one at Collingwood in 2010.

After departing Collingwood at the end of the 2011 season, it was widely tipped that Malthouse would return to the coaching profession somewhere in 2013 after he had hinted on numerous occasions that he wasn’t yet ready for retirement.

It sets up a tasty subplot to next season, with Malthouse at the helm of Collingwood’s most hated rivals, something that is certain to stir up passion on both sides of the Collingwood-Carlton divide.

Malthouse has long been renowned for his relationship with the media and today’s announcement, which begins at 10.00am AEST, will be an intriguing one. We’ll have live updates from the beginning.
