Sharks, manager deny Ryan deal
There are denials from both sides, but it appears only a matter of time before Cronulla secure unwanted Wests Tigers winger Beau ‘Knows’ Ryan for the next three NRL seasons.
Ryan’s immediate playing future has been plunged into limbo, with a new three-year deal he signed with the Tigers earlier this year falling through due to salary cap pressures.
There was speculation the 27-year-old had signed with the Sharks, but both the club and his manager Wayne Beavis denied any deal had been struck.
“It might happen down the track but certainly not today,” Beavis told AAP on Monday.
“We’re talking to a few clubs.”
The Sharks say they are definitely interested in versatile outside back – who along with Penrith flyer Michael Gordon would add some much-needed speed to Cronulla’s ranks.
The Tigers’ decision to allow Ryan to leave has surprised many in rugby league circles following a standout campaign in 2012 when he filled gaps at wing, centre and fullback.
His efforts were rewarded with selection in the Prime Minister’s XIII to play Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby on Sunday.
With Tigers back-rower Chris Heighington also in talks with the Sharks, Cronulla’s squad could have a very black and gold feel to it in 2013 with ex-Tigers Bryce Gibbs and Andrew Fifita already at the club.

Another terrible move by the Tigers get rid of one of their best players this year and Heighington one of the hardest working players. Only to re-sign an over the hill Lote and the SMH reports they are chasing an over the hill Kite from Manly to add to Anasta joining the club. Maybe someone can explain it because I can’t understand it.

OMG! Are they serious. This bloke busted his guts this year and had his BEST season to date and now they’re going to release him. The one thing that has made the Tigers a success in recent times is the development of local and young blokes now the management at the club want to turn us into “Dad’s Army”.
This is pathetic reasoning. If I was Tim Sheens I’d be looking for another club now because the Tigers won’t make the 8 next year and that will be bye, bye Timmy!

Ok I will explain it for you- speeratly for both Beau and Highno
The Tigers have 2 of the best young wingers in the game coming through. Marika Koroibete who we saw at the end of the year and David Nofoaluma who they recently signed for 3 more years and who starred in the under 20s. They see these 2 wingers as the future for the wing at the club. However Koroibete is in his first year of first grade and Nofoaluma at only 19 has at least another year in U20s to go (although depending on injuries you will see him in FG next year). This means that they need more wing depth next year for one wing position and also some experience and guidance for these 2 young wingers. They don’t need a winger for the next 3 years. Hence they have Lote and Utai for next year as both have extensive experince but wont hold up the spots for the next 3 years. Also Utai is on a fairly minimal contract and the majority of Lote’s money will be outside the cap – so they don’t take up much space. Beau on the other hand would be a 3 year contract and cost them as much as porbably they have spent under the cap on Lote, Utai and Nofoaluma combined. Even if they kept Beau they would still have needed Nofoaluma and one of Utai or Lote so not resigning Beau provides them with extra money to spend and doesen’t hinder the star up and coming juniors. Utai and Lote alzso offer experinece in a backline that will include youngsters – Tedesco, Koroibete, Nofoaluma, Sironen
Hieghno – We have made it clear over the last couple of yrs by looking to release Highno that we dont see him their after his contract expired next year. Hence the offer of 3 years at the sharks is the best thing for him. We have a plethora of backrowers next year and some rising stars in Under 20s. Relweasing Highno who would be on decent money (esp given he would have activated a rep clause last yr by Playing for Engalnd) and this extra money will allow the club to sign up a couple of extra props which 2012 showed was an area of shortage. This will include signing Brent Kite who will add experience to a group of young front rowers in Groat, Buchannan, Foutika. They are also looking to sign Masoe Masoe to counter the issue of prop depth and size which the tigers struggled with in 2012 and provide more depth given the risk of injuries (and woods playing origin) and to allow the young props time to develop.
Look for the Tigers to also look to add some depth in the centres for next year depending on the cap and who is made available
I am a tigers supporter and I love Beau and will miss him and he does bring attention to the club, but a club must nevwer put popularity in front of developing a winning team and a winning culture

You make a good point Josh but loyalty is a two way street and somewhere along the line you must consider what is “right” for the club just by having a player like Beau there.
He gives you 100% effort EVERY week, can play in any position in the back line and, as you rightly pointed out, bring attention to he club which attracts much needed sponsors.
Beware of turning your back on your faithful friend for a newer more attractive mate, it’s bound to come back and bite you on the bum.

Boydy, totally agree and I love Beau and the 100% effort he puts in and if it had been me from an outsiders perspective looking in then I would have kept Beau I just wanted to give an explanation of why the club would look at another option given its playing stock options. I though Beau was one of our best this year when he played on the wing and gave a 100% even when out of position but in reality he has been replaced by a prop in a team that all supporters new was short 1 or 2 props all year.

That’s a pretty decent summation mate.
That being said, i think the tigers will be bottom 4 next year….can’t see them challenging for the title let alone the 8.

Well said. Don’t agree with all the logic of the tigers as the young guys do often get injured (Sironen and Tedesco) and the old guys (Tuquri) also and then you are left with no one but centres playing on the wings. And making room for Kite & Anasta is a joke. I am sure Ryan would attract a hell of a lot more third party sponsors than than has been Tuquri.
We need a HALF BACK.

…and what’s with the sharks becoming the tigers dumping ground. Maybe it’s no coincidence that the sharks made the finals this year and the tigers disappeared like a fart on a windy day.

Very hard to see why we are signing so many players who are showing their use by dates,Kite,Anasta, possibly keeping Taquiri who cannot improve and Adam Blair is taking up valuable dollars under the salary cap.
Blair has been the worst buy of the season notwithstanding he has not been worth a cracker in any of his games,a liabability on the paddock, having him on is like playing with twelve men in your side..
Hope Beau stays this bloke has many talents including his footbal, not looking good for the Wests tigers next year ,maybe will follow the Sharkies like I am sure so will a lot of ex. WestsTigers supporters.

No Beau has more sense than to go to the shonkies. He’s better than that too, any descent agent ought to be able to get him a contract at a proper club.

Are any backrowers leaving the sharks? Heighington might struggle to get a run.
